|  [Misc] Home Use Printer Suggestions
I'm in the process of evaluating printers for use at home, and while I've been to the store with a CF card in hand and have seen the output from several models, was hoping to get input here from those who have some hands on experience with different models out there today - or good/bad experiences with a specific brand.
I'm looking for a printer with good photo printing capabilities for home use - to print for hanging at home and for friends. Anything special goes to MPIX.
I'm a MAC user, so any experience from that perspective and using Lightroom would be appreciated - especially in accuracy of the output. I can't afford a print calibrator or justify the cost just for home use.
Scanner, wireless, double-sided, built-in CD burner (kinda' neat HP, but not sure it's really needed) are all nice, but not needed.

| While I know lots of people *love* to print their own stuff at home, you really can't even begin to compete with sending your prints to Costco (if one is close enough).
They use Fuji Crystal Archive paper and they're GREAT quality.

| Thanks - that's really good to know since there's a COSTCO near me. What I want though is to be able to print something on the spot for someone, or just for myself.

What's your price range?
HP Photosmart D7560 $120
HP Photosmart D5460 $ 80
Canon Pixma iP4600 $ 90
These printers rated high for photo quality in that price range, I never used them although
I have a Canon Pixma iP4300 and a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and like them both. |

I have an old Epson R300 and love it. My neighbor bought a Canon Pixma a year or so ago and I have to admit that the prints are just a bit better than the Epson.
One thing that was both high on our list of requirements was that the prints come out immediately dry and are waterproof.
I can't speak for the new HP's because I have not owned an HP photo printer for years, but the last HP printer I had was only water resistant. The prints came out damp and had little resistance to water spots.
(For what it's worth to anyone with a older HP, a quick 20 seconds in the microwave does dry the prints out.) |

i use a refurb pro9000 canon
it's stunning at 13x19''
paid $250 for it and will never regret it. even tho i have to refill myself. $47 compared to $850 makes a great difference to me..

Pay the postage and have it done by Fuji Labs....
Amazing results and not dependendent on local no nothing bozo running the photo departmat, just MAYBE remembering how to push the buttons.
But to get back to OP question.... as others have said want a real image phot vs quick and dirty one time... send it out even to the cheapo's.
BUT for home Inkjet might seem cheap, till you lok at supplies, and fade factor..... Color Lasers have gotten quite ecconomical and and that is where I would go, for basic quick color prints at home as well as other uses. Lasers generally also MUCH faster.
