Re: how to open nat on new belkin f5d230-4

I see you posted in another thread about forwarding ports. I'm going to assume that this means that you aren't able to connect at all in the game.
If you are able to connect and play but your connection drops after a while then it isn't a port forwarding problem.

Don't be afraid to ask questions in this thread if you are confused about something.

I'm going to link you to some pages for call of duty 4. cod 5 should use the same ports.

This is for a belkin 5230. Your interface will probably be very similar but I'm still not sure that the model number of f5d230, rather than f5d5230 or
f5d7230 is correct. If you can check your model number again it would be helpful.

Note the instructions on that page send you to an additional link for setting up a static ip address. The reason that you need to do this is because if you continue to use dhcp "obtain ip address automatically" then your ip address for the machine could change in the future and it would cause your port forwarding to then fail, since the proper ports won't be forwarded for your new address.

Also make sure you get the protocol type correct. You are forwarding udp, NOT tcp.

I'm also going to link to another page that gives a larger listing of ports for the game. You probably don't need to open all these ports but if the above instructions don't work I would try adding some of the ports listed in the link below.
I don't think you can specify a port range on the belkin, such as 28960 - 28970 in the private and public port settings. You can try it though, it won't hurt anything. Alternately you can make a separate line entry for each port. That is for port 28960, then a new line for 28961, 26962 etc. up to 28970.

This can be intimidating for people who aren't familiar with networking so don't hesitate to post back with questions if you are confused about something.

It sounds as if you have set up port forwarding and can connect and play the game but you lose the connection after a while? Or do you mean that you can never connect and play at all and haven't forwarded any ports?

Does this happen only in cod5 or in other net use as well?

Could you double check the model number? Is it d230 or d5230 or d7230?
