Re: LCD hit by lightning

Since the monitor was fried, it either was unprotected or had a really low-quality one. Most of the good ones have guarantees that will replace equipment if the protection fails. They're available at places like Dell, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, and better local home electronics stores.

Yeah, I don't know if they had it on a surge protector or not, but I'll remind them on their new one.

Buy a new one, along with a decent, business-grade surge supressor.

A friend has a 21" LCD that died recently after an electrical storm. It didn't take a "direct" hit, but died after a close lightning strike.

It cost her $300 to buy.

Do you think it's worth trying to get fixed, or just buy a new one?
Shop around, one should be able to pick up a new, bigger, better for around US$ 150.
