Did Rogers ask you guys to upgarde your modem before August

Just received an email saying that I must take my modem to a Rogers center and exchange it for a new one or I won't have internet access. The deadline was August 7th.

Just wondering if anyone got this. I find it strange that Rogers is forcing its customers to go in and exchange the modem rather than have them come in and exchange it for us. We pay good money for Internet! Also wanted to confirm with other users here to make sure it's not spam mail. Thanks.

Here's the link of centers btw - »assets.rogershelp.com/emailimage···res.html

Curious what modem you have currently? I would assume they're switching over to DOCSIS 3 modems.

If Rogers had to visit our homes to do simple upgrades, we'd all by paying more for the Internet.
Sounds like your the first on the block to be upgraded to DOCSIS 3. I'm jelous

Doesn't make sense ... upgrading DOCSIS 2 modems to DOCSIS 3 ... they're totally compatible. It would seem more likely that he has either a TeraPro, a Motorola Wave modem, or a DOCSIS 1 modem.

Interesting. One can only surmise that something will happen around that date.

He probably has an Motorola SB5100. They are swaping those out since the firmware cannot be upgraded to support some upgrades they have done at the headend. Docsis 3 is still awhile away.

I have a SB5100 and haven't gotten any requests to swap out my modem.

Probably is the Motorola. I was asked to swap that out last summer - same message - swap it or no service. I got in return the WebSTAR DPC2100R2.

What about the people that bought it instead of rented, are we screwed?

At least Motorola still exists and can update their modem. I've got a Toshiba PCX2600! Toshiba went out of the modem business!

I can't believe it's a problem related to DOCSIS 2.0 modems.

Just to clarify, the SB5100 series modems cannot be upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0... if you want DOCSIS 3.0 speeds, then you need a new modem. SB5100 cannot do channel bonding.

However, if you meant that once they go live to DOCSIS 3.0 on the CMTS side, then yes, older modems are backwards compatible with the new CMTS's.

Or get an SB6120 which is Docsis 3 and is about 100 bucks

That's what I mean ... there's no need to go to DOCSIS 3 if you have a DOCSIS 2 and don't want to go to higher speed tiers.

That said, although the DOCSIS 1 modems are still compatible, they don't do so well even at Ex+ speeds.

So what happens if you never check your Rogers email and you never gave Rogers an alternate email address?

I have a SB5100 modem... should I be worried I will get cut off?

Yeah thats the max speed of those modems, Docsis 1.1 can hit 38mb
Just checked them out.. they are showing a max of 15mb,but your friend must be on the Manitoba Border. not bad for BF Nowhere, and we city folks get slower speeds (probably for more money)

I haven't received any such email, but then I remembered that my "master" Rogers email account is an old numbered account back from Shaw days that I no longer use. A few attempts to get one of my other Rogers accounts made the master have failed, so I haven't done anything.

Based on this post and since I have an SB5100, I decided to check what was in it in case these were only being mailed to the master account. There was lots of Rogers advertisements... loads of notices of features being dropped... nothing about exchanging my modem... but there, from early June, is a lovely notice telling me that my Better Choice Bundle is being dropped.

Yea but probably because it had the new firmware, older SB5100 may not have the proper firmware to do so or be able to upgrade the firmware.

If and when I get an email I'll replace this modem. Until then this Motorola works just fine. I asked a few friends here in town as well who have the same modem, no one has gotten an email from Rogers telling them to swap their modems. But we're pretty far down on the totem pole for upgrades.
