| reply to Greg_Z Re: Home Network issue
That's what I thought at first too. But even after we made sure it was in the trusted network it still didn't work.
To be honest it doesn't really matter as the subscription has expired and she will replace it with something else. It's just odd that they won't work together.
Thanks for your help Greg_Z |

| reply to Greg_Z The installer's supervisor called yesterday morning to see how everything was running. She explained the problem and he came over in the afternoon.
Ultimately found out that the problem was with the McAfee firewall on the host computer. The other computer has NIS. For some reason it's not playing nice with the RG LAN. Disabling the software firewall solves the problem.
We checked all of the settings in the firewall and agreed that it should be letting the traffic pass through but it just won't.
Anybody with McAfee have any similar compatibility issues with the RG? |

| reply to Zoder I've never heard of file maker pro associated with apple at all... anywho.
Let me know if you need clarification on this at all.
Who does the client talk to the server? Is it by IP address or computer name? I'm going to be its probably by IP address. I can't remember where this is but I think it was edit / preferences/ connections / TCPIP or something similar, there you can set the address of the server. Make sure this is the new computer' s IP address or hostname. |

2 edits | reply to Greg_Z Well actually they are XP machines running the windows version of Filemaker 8.5 as the backend and Apparel Magic is the frontend.
Apparel Magic support calls the 2 machine setup Peer to Peer.
You log in to the program on the computer that has the Apparel magic file. Then once logged in, the second computer can launch Filemaker and open the file on the first computer remotely.
From there both computers are using the program independently with any changes taking place in real time visible to both pc's.
quote: Double check the software to make sure that it recognizes the new network, since it was set up on the Linky orig. As for connecting the linky, there is no need, unless you are trying to separate the workstations from the private home systems to make a separate network, which can cause other problems.
Well I was only contemplating that if I couldn't get it to work through the 2wire. But if I need to, is there a FAQ that explains the best way to do this and the pros and cons?
i'm going to log in remotely to the host computer through gotomypc right now and see if there are any settings in filemaker that addresses this.
One other thing. I do know that the AM file is just over 100 MB. But I don't know how much info is actually transfered over the network once the 2nd PC requests information. So it could be the G network is just not fast enough to handle the bandwidth. But I have would to check with AM support to be sure. |

| reply to Zoder That helps a lot more, now that we are talking about Apple machines running Mac OS, not Windows machines. The problem with running Client/Server, without a specific machine as a server, you are working on the server as a client.

| My friend had U-verse installed on Saturday. Everything appears to be working great except for her home network.
She runs a home business and has 2 computers that were previously wired directly to a linksys router. The business software uses one computer as the host and one as the client.
The installer set up both computers to the RG through 2wire wireless adapters. The ping time between each computer is 2 ms. From the computer to the RG is 1ms. Internet speed is fast. But for some reason the business software on the client computer is timing out.
If I disconnect both wireless adapters and connect them back up to the linksys, the software works perfectly. Any ideas.
My solution is to run a 50 ft ethernet cable from the RG to the linksys but I want to make sure I have the routine down correctly.
I should put that connection from the RG to the linksys into DMZ mode and set the linksys internet connection to DHCP, correct? |
