 | [DIRECTV] Why do I lease receivers instead of buying them? Someone explained this to me, but forgot. Why would I buy a standard receiver for $70 at best buy instead of leasing it for $5 a month? I mean I can see that for the HD DVR cause thats expensive. But why not one on ebay? |

Both DTV and DISH allow buy option, but $300 more likely (actually buyying the equipment, vs BIG/FREE discount for low lease rate) (especially HD) and maint is you end not theirs after 1 year.
You are NOT BUYING that receiver for $70 that is your lease down payment/closing cost just like a car. (Read the package fine print) You quit they will want the receiver back.

The Best Buy folks will leave this part of out of the discussion, but read the fine print.....DirecTV matintains ownership of all of their receivers.... |

No you don't.... if the box is free you are LEASING...Owning means likely you are paying $2-300 or more if HD up front for a DVR.
Have't looked at my bill recently, but DISH forced me to replace my OWNED 721 DVR (THE TIVO suit NONSENSE), with a 522 they gave me free, and last I checked were still not charging me a $5.mo fee.
Honestly the 522 seems more like a Tivo than the 721 but whatever. -- »haywardm.com (Hayward's Key West)
