FiOS in Castle Hills - Lewisville, TX

The fiber lines have been put into the ground throughout the Castle Hills neighborhood in Lewisville, TX. Does anyone know when we will be able to order FiOS and have it installed? I recently moved into CH and had to give up FiOS which we had at our old house. Grande Communications is killing me!!!

Holy cow, Verizon finally overbuilt in Castle Hills. Took them long enough. Grande Com is now officially in danger..

If you were built out by Housley Communications, figure another 90 days to 6 months. If it was all by Verizon, or if you now see Verizon trucks, figure 30-60 days. These are pure guesstimates based on what I've read here and heard from other north Texas locals (plus friends who work or worked for Housley and Verizon).

This is VZ's first venture into an area where they do not sell dial tone. Very curious to see what the 'take rate' will be in this area as the triple play is not an option...From your comments I take it that the local carrier (Grande Com) has lousy service? What is it about GC that you hate the most? Thanks!

Really? Because there have been other reports where Verizon is "overbuilding" into AT&T areas -- and I've always assumed that Vz didn't offer dial tone in those places before either.

That is true but I believe this is the first area where the video service is now available...

What do you make of this, Mark?

Up until recently VZ only sold video in areas where they sell dial tone (POTS). VZ has now ventured into areas where AT&T provides POTS to customers. I think you're confusing this wth VZ FiOS Video competing directly with AT&T Uverse which is not the case to my knowledge.

In response to wesm -

It was not Verizon putting the fiber in the ground and I do not think it was Housley (I remember they were the ones that did it in my old neighborhood). For several weeks there were several convoys of trucks throughout the neighborhood putting the boxes in the ground and doing all kinds of digging everywhere. It was some company like Cable Contractors or something like that.

In response to VZ Mark -

We signed up for FiOS when it became available in our old neighborhood and since day 1 with phone, internet, and TV, we have never had an outage, no issues the STBs/HD DVRs, or channels not being available. Here are my complaints...Grande only has about 25% of the HD channels that FiOS has, the internet being 1/2 the speed, and only getting basic telephone service (no unlimited LD, no caller ID, etc...) and I am paying just a few $ less than what I was paying with FiOS. I have been with Grande for less than a month and have already experienced these issues:

1. About 2 weeks ago, the HD DVR just started rebooting itself every few minutes. This lasted for several hours. I called Grande and they said it was a known issue and they were working to resolve it. It was finally resolved after several hours.

2. Last Sunday I am trying to watch the Confederations Cup Final (US vs Brazil) on ESPNHD and all I get on that channel is a message saying 'This channel will be available shortly'. This message was there all afternoon. I called some friends, one with U-Verse and one with DirecTV and they both said they had no issues with ESPNHD.

3. Two times since we started with them, our internet service has been unavailable. This on top of them making me pay $36 for a cable modem and they do not offer any type of wireless device, that is up to you to go buy. I have never had to pay a dime for the Verizon routers we used with them.

In the years I had FiOS at the old house, we never had any issues with the service and now less than a month after getting Grande we have gone through all this.

I am hoping FiOS is available sooner than later in CH!!!

This is definitely not the 1st area Verizon has opened without phone service. We have been doing out of franchise (overbuilding another ILEC) in the Keller/Watuaga/Fort Worth area's for a few months now. While I know our splicers are working on getting the hubs set up, I have not heard an ETA on when and what services will be available for CH's.

Are you aware if these are the extent of the overbuilding areas in north Texas? Or is expansion done?

True, I meant Texas in general was the first area. Not aware of the local areas and which came first. VZ has great penetration rates in TX and since it's the oldest VHO there is much demand for FiOS TV. Look for this to take place in other states as well.

Some of the other area's that should see fios in the not so distant future include Northern parts of Plano, A good chunk of Allen, and some area's in Frisco. I see you are in mesquite, I havn't heard any rumors of heading that way with it.

I live in far west Plano (south of Spring Creek, west of Midway) and Verizon just started offering Fios in my area. They only offer video and HSI right now. Verizon began offering the service in May of this year for my area after having the fiber in the ground ~6-9 months. I was told the long delay was due to back-haul to CO and billing?

We are serviced by Grande, AT&T, TWC, and now Verizon.

I dropped my AT&T service completely (Local, LD, HSI) and switched to Verizon for HSI and ported my home phone to a family talk cell plan. I extended my DirecTV contract when AT&T missed the boat in my neighborhood ~12 months ago. The offer U-Verse to adjacent neighborhood, but not mine. Too bad, they now have lost a customer for good with Fios in the picture.

Thanks for the response...yes, I've been thinking of moving to Garland for a while now. Being 5 miles away from FIOS hurts.
