1 edit | [Availability] OK, now I am really mad
So, I currently have 3.0 DSL and have been trying to get 6.0 for some time now. (several years actually, I even posted about it here a while back. »[Availability] Does anyone in Raleigh, Cary or Morrisville have ) Every time I would check the web, it said not available and when I called customer service, same answer. No one could ever tell me if it would be available and why not. I live in a new neighborhood in a mostly new area. I have a fiber box on the corner of my property. The techs I have talked to all said it was 100% ready for 6.0.
So, Every few months I call when I am bored and today I called them. Same as always, polite but firm, asking for a sup when the person gave me no answer. The first call took 24 minutes and I got transferred to 3 different people all claiming that someone else could help me. Finally the last person accidentally disconnected me and in spite of her asking for my callback number, she never did.
I called back and got in touch with a supervisor who was actually very helpful. He put me on hold and checked with some other group (I think he said server group) who actually found out that somehow, all the ports in the area for 6.0 are taken up. Since I have literally been asking for 6.0 since the day I set the order up to move to a new house, this is somewhat troubling. I guess it was not available then and somehow, all the ports were taken up between my calls.
At any rate, he said he would put me on some kind of priority list for service, so the next time a 6.0 port came available, I would get a phone call. Is this really something that exists? Is there anything else left to do? |

| reply to LeeWL on their website it stated they only offered 3.0 where i am at but when i called them to move my dsl service the guy on the phone stated they had 6.0 available and sure enough i get speeds above 6.0. the largest gain in 6 vs 3 for me were hd video services like netflix. and thats pretty much about it. Most download sites are caped at 200kb though I find about 1 out of 10 that support 800kb which is good. I live in a very small town with just over 10k and am able to get high speed. I live about 1/2 mile from downtown so maybe that has something to do with it. And I never had a problem with their customer service, no one had to come out or anything i just packed my modem to my new house and it started working instantly. |

| reply to LeeWL The website also told me that 6 was not available for me. My modem went bad and AT&T insisted on a truck roll to confirm before replacing. When the tech arrive, I asked him is I could get 6 and he said he'd look. He went to the DSLAM, did some tests and said I could. He then called and had the line provisioned for 6 which works great for me. I think maybe you should ask one of the techs to call in and you shouldn't have a problem. |

| reply to LeeWL Back in the day... I was dispatched on speed troubles. Dial-up subscribers were upset cuz they were only getting 42k out of a 56 k connection. Now these folks have the opportunity to purchase 18 meg with u-verse. The moral of the story; It could always be worse, yet patience prevails! BTW ... the subscribers whom complained about the 56k dial-up don't won't to come out of their wallets for 18 meg. "It's a complicated world we live in" |
