| [IE] IE8 - Anyone having intermittent failures to load webpages?
Since IE 8 was released via windows update I have been using it. I've noticed that pages are failing to load more and more, sometime needing to be refresh and/or re-clicking links. I also use tab browsing and when I open a page in another tab, it will usually fail - refreshing sometimes gets it to load.
For a second I thought I had some kind of dns issue but I noticed it's happening at work, home and on the road with all different computers.

Playing Mafia Wars with 5 browsers open on Facebook hogs more memory on my system as opposed to when using Firefox.
Aside from that I don't see any problem with IE8. |

1 edit | reply to devicemanage The problem may be from an IE add-on that may not be completely compatible with IE8.
You can check the "load time" for each add-on here:
IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons > Toolbars and Extensions
In the "Load Time" column is there anything with a load time listed?
If so, what are the add-on(s) and what are the load times? |

| reply to devicemanage devicemanage,
I have the same problem. Thought it was just me. I have Windows Vista 64 and the problem seems to be with the built in IE8 32 bit. Do not experience these problems on my Windows XP machines with IE8.
If you find a solution, please keep us posted. Thanks. |

| I'm running Vista and have FIOS internet service. What about you guys?
Glad I am not alone here. If I refresh the page nothing happens either - in most cases anyway. I click the diagnose button and finds nothing wrong. Refresh again and the page loads - this is driving me nuts. -- »www.devicemanager.net |

| reply to devicemanage My issue is that it gets stuck on connecting when trying to go to a link. I copy the link to a different tab, and it loads fine, but the stuck tab won't load any links at all. It's like that tab doesn't have a network connection. It appears to be random.

Restart IE and see if it makes a difference. |

| reply to devicemanage A quick test and all seems to be well - hmmm, I guess that was hanging the browser?
I will try it for another day and let you guys know. I would be curios to hear if the others with similar responses have such an add on lagging the browser... -- »www.devicemanager.net |

| reply to devicemanage OK, with Auggy's help went to:
IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons > Toolbars and Extensions
The only add-on with a load time was "Adobe PDF Link Helper" and it was disabled and I enabled it. Seems to have resolved the problem. If anything changes will let everyone know.
Ironically, I do not have "groove gfs browser helper" listed as an add-on. It is not there.
Hope this helps anyone experiencing the same problem. |

| reply to zaldy 5? One of the things that I'm starting to hate about Windows 7 is just how many IE sessions I can open without any problems as being kind of a researcher type I end up with tons of sessions each with multiple tabs etc, I'm becoming awash with my own information. There are tons of features which let me find sessions, tabs, follow thought threads etc, but really the easier it is, the more I just create open sessions etc and the further awash in information I become.
Some days I'm afraid to log off and lose all my 'found' information, and my 'favorites' heck that is more like the library of congress then a favorites list anymore (thanks to live mesh my favorites follows me around which is great). I think we are going to need something way more then 'favorites' to organize our 'found' sites.
I'm lucky in that my ISP is both very fast and very reliable so I never seem to have many problems loading sites. This was a link that someone listed awhile ago on DSLReports that I nabbed for testing if sites were down for me or everyone:
»downforeveryoneorjustme.com/
If you have any sites that you would like tested by other people here, I'm sure some folks would be happy to take a quick look at them for you.

join:2006-05-14 Denver, CO | reply to zaldy IE8 uses more memory than Firefox because IE8 tends to open web pages in separate IE processes. This allows for one or more tabs to fail without taking the entire browser with it. Chrome also does this/has this featureFirefox does not. |

| reply to Link Logger "awash with my own information". That is hilarious...but I have the same thing happen...just not with IE8 as it crashes a lot. I don't want to lose my "fabulous" information either and I end up with two virtual computers running...each with Fx and sometimes Opera running and my host XP computer running with Fx and Opera open also. I usually have about 90 tabs open in each browser on three different computers and I don't want to close anything! I'll lose that stuff and I might not find it again. If I was using IE, I sure wouldn't count on Favorites dealing with all that information and Fx and Opera bookmarks don't deal with it very well ...so, I just get more and more tabs open until something freezes and forces me to close the browser or even have to reboot. But, never worry, all the browsers SAVE the session and I can reopen 90+ tabs!!! Of course, eventually I begin to wonder why the browsers are getting slow...duh...it's because of all those 90+ tab sessions that are saved in memory!!! -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. | reply to devicemanage I have the same problem with IE7 in WinXP and haven't tried IE8. The last reliable IE version I used is IE6, and I'd probably still use IE6 due to its superior reliability except that IE6 lacks some features in IE7 I like such as capturing streaming video without a third party add on. A friend has the same IE7 problems running Vista. I have no such problems with Mozilla Seamonkey, and I use it for everything except things that need IE7. This appears to be another problem that affects only certain systems like the problems I had installing Flash player for Seamonkey on my system while most experienced no problems installing flash for Mozilla browsers including Seamonkey or FireFox. |

| Hi,
I had the same problem with IE 8 just sitting at Connecting...
So thanks to this thread I figured out to check the load times.
I checked load times and then disabled:
Name: JQSIEStartDetectorImpl Class Version: 6.0.100.28
This also disabled:
Name: Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper Version: 6.0.100.28
That solved the issue for me.
Good luck everyone. |
