| Video Loss with bright white picture?
I remember seeing something about this once before, but I seem to be experiencing a blue screen flash with "video loss", whenever a bright screen is shown in a program/commercial. Any ideas on a solution? Is it something with the TV or STB? I have the cisco box and a Vizio LCD. I checked the TV setup, and did not see any settings to change. The STB is connected via component, not HDMI. I had issues with HDMI. Any input appreciated.

| I have the same problem with a 26inch Dynex TV connected via component cables. I am going to guess it is something with our TV's. I don't have the problem with my 32inch Samsung. I have also switched the location of the DVR and STB to see if that solves the problem.......it does not. I will not use HDMI either, it causes my TV's aspect ratio to be distorted. Even with adjusted the aspect ratio of the box and messing with the zoom features. Unfortunately I don't think there is a fix at least that I know of. |

| reply to TJ_in_IL HD over Component cables on the Cisco DVR/STB give the bright screen artifacts. Apparently, it's a known problem -- I know, little consolation if it affects your viewing -- that keeps me from getting true HD. I have to watch HD channels in SD wide screen. A nice picture, to be sure, but not the HD I'm paying $10 a month for. -- Read your contract and TOS before signing anything. |

1 edit | reply to TJ_in_IL Someone over on utalk posted that they had AT&T swap out the DVR with one of the newer, larger ones and this went away. It only seems to affect some TVs. My Panasonic TVs were connected via component and I never saw this once.

| reply to TJ_in_IL TJ,
The component signal levels on the Cisco box are technically non-compliant. The levels are close enough that most TVs still work fine. Signal loss on bright screens is a U-verse box problem, not the TV's.
I had the same problem connecting to a Samsung DLP via component. AT&T swapped the box for an identical model (I was hoping for the brand new upgraded box with no luck), and the replacement hasn't given me any problems. You will lose your recordings, though.
If you want to keep your recordings and have additional STBs, you can try swapping them around to see if another box crosses the "working" threshold. |

| reply to TJ_in_IL I called. I got the CSR in the Philippines. We went thru all the troubleshooting steps. She made "adjustments." I scanned the channels, and found the artifacts were still there. She consulted the schedule, and I have a technician coming tomorrow between noon and 4 pm. I hope s/he is reading this thread and knows this is a component output issue on a Cisco DVR box... -- Read your contract and TOS before signing anything. |

A new Cisco box (with a Jan 09 build date) did the trick. I am now officially happy with U-Verse. -- Read your contract and TOS before signing anything. |

| reply to Technogeez My box says 9/08 and I assume that means it was made in 2008. My screen goes to wavy lines then to a blue screen before resetting. I have a Mitsubishi WS-65411 and it worked fine on Charter. I am using component output. At first thought it was HD only, but it is predominantly happening on Noggin..lesser on other channels. DVD works fine as before so not thinking it was or is the TV tuner. I am on my third BOX. in less than one week. I need to decide whether to stay with Uverse or go back to Charter? HELP |
