| Thinking of switching from Sprint to Verizon-Good move?
We currently use Sprint as our cell phone provider. One phone on our plan has ended on the contract, the other phone, mine, has until April 2010 until the contract ends (Apparently my husband has to renew a contract to upgrade my phone)
Although we are being billed to our home address in Ohio, Sprint continues to charge us South Dakota (where we originally started using Sprint as our cell provider when we lived here) taxes instead of Ohio. Now we are visting family in South Dakota and we can not even get half of one bar here. We come back to SD frequently and it is a pain in the rear to not be able to use our phones or receive calls until we are in Sioux Falls. I had 7 missed calls on the 24th that I didn't even get the missed call or voicemail icon until the 28th!
My sister in Ohio uses Verizon and family here uses Verizon so we are thinking of making the switch. However, I still have until Apr 2010 until my contract ends Does anyone have any idea if they prorate the ETF fee or if it is X amount regardless? And what has your experience been with Verizon compared to Sprint if you have had both before?
Thank you | |

| Re: Thinking of switching from Sprint to Verizon-Good move? your phone should roam. have you updated the PRL on your device? is your phone's network locked to Sprint only? if so, allow it to roam. If you don't know how to do any of that, call Sprint tech support from a landline 1-877-639-8351. they can also give you definitive info on early termination fees on your contract, but you can also check out »www.sprint.com/etf (read all the words). | |

| Re: Thinking of switching from Sprint to Verizon-Good move? Even with roaming I am only getting 1 1/2 bars and keep losing signal. I am not able to receive any calls or voicemail messages. Doesn't make any sense that it would take days to get a notice that I missed a call or message.
Anyway, called Sprint and they do not prorate the ETF at all! They are going to look into the matter about charging us fees and taxes for a state that we do not even live in and are supposed to be calling us back in 5 days to let us know final outcome of their decision on that because they said it will take that long to determine when we moved to Ohio (umm, maybe when we called them to change our billing address and phone number)

Sprint has the worst customer service. As far as billing errors, it can happen with any carriers. If I were you, I would have considered other carriers, other than Verizon. You could ask anybody how Verizon's policy and what Verizon does to get the most out of their customers. Business is business, but other carriers has friendlier policy and still make money.
