| Newbie Question - Where to learn about/discuss outages?
I have been a Wildblue user in middle Tennesse for about a year now... I like it OK. (Better than the dial up that I had.)
But, I sometimes have unexplained outages. If there has been a storm and/or my satellite cable is also down, then there is little mystery. But, sometimes my Wildbue connection seems to go down for no reason.
Is there somewhere that I can look on the internet (assuming I go somewhere else and can get online) to look and see what the current status of the Wildblue network is?
Is there somewhere that recent outages are posted/listed and explained (ie: solar flare, equipment failure, etc.)? |

4 edits | If your Wildblue modem loses connection with the satellite or your speeds are abnormally slow, in addition to checking the weather at your site, check the weather at your gateway. Being located in middle Tennessee you are probably using spot beam 124 or 125 which means your gateway is Laredo or Syracuse. You can find links to radar maps of these locations in the sticky thread near the top of the main page in this Wildblue forum entitled, "Weather at Wildblue NOCs."
As far as I know Wildblue does not post their outages anywhere. Since Wildblue rarely admits any problem and routinely blames their customers, it is unlikely there ever will be. You can create a thread here asking if any other Wildblue customers are having problems. Because some of the problems are specific to them, you need to state your spot beam and gateway when posting.
Since the solar activity cycle is currently at a minimum solar flares are not causing a problem. -- Value Pack, beam 31, Riverside gateway |

| Apparently there has been a problem for people using Syracuse. So far WB has not said much about this but a number of people have complained about this on the WB forum. Here are a couple threads on the subject.

| reply to Isoroku Way back when, ISP's used to publish their outages and maintenance records online for their users. But the ISP's soon found out it was bad for future client signups. And most have stopped doing the practice and now force users to saturate call support with calls and then the user gets accused of having an infection.
"Right of Innocence".
Without message boards, people would keep sending their computers for repair and upgrades, because call support said so. -- Consumer Rights is more than just a suggestion. |

| reply to Isoroku It would be nice if they'd post something. Wish they'd use Twitter or something.
My service regularly degrades to uselessness, then there'll be an outage, then it will come back online at 'normal' performance. -- Wildblue Cheyenne : Beam 34 |

Unexplained outages does not always point to Wildblue...for instance, here is a site called "Down for everyone or just me?"
What I have found is a number of sites, not Wildblue, are having problems...even government sites.
Also, your highly visited sites also have bandwidth problems these days....they will move at a snail's pace.
Remember, this URL listed above was not made for Wildblue satellite users but those on DSL, FIOS, WISPs, Cable, etc....the internet is having bandwidth problems...choking. |

They are all good. They are all also terrible. Pick a satellite and you should do better than you are doing now. If at some point down the road the service on that one starts to deteriorate then change again.
Myself, I don't have these "problems," Wildblue has been rock solid except when someone cut their fiber optic cable...and then it was down for several days. |
