Re: [News] Usenet.com Loses Music Lawsuit

The court and judges thoughts on this and usenet in general is really interesting....and scary. Not that I really want to find out, but it should be interesting to see how the **AA's use this victory.

WTF are you talking about?? the usenet has been in courts many more times than this..

It looks to me like they've given up (RIAA/MPAA) and our changing tactics honestly..

This wasn't giganews or astraweb or highwinds put to the test here.. it was apparently a really shoddy organization based on the arstechnica news post I read anyway..
»arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news···suit.ars

The only one I see possibly going down in the future is newzbin.. cause I thought they'd be smart and use offshore servers etc. or even smarter would have been a user based community not a paid/custom editor situation..

People have been forecasting the death of usenet for the last 6-10 years, hasn't happened yet.. I doubt it will happen.. but I do see it possible that something easier and better then usenet will come along and will work for the masses and deliver most of what usenet already does.. tv, movies, music, software

If there is a death of usenet it will likely be better technology and better delivery systems.. that could destroy it.. I will give you a real world example.. I used to download Daily Show/Colbert Report episodes.. they were tv caps from cable about 200 mb each and not very good quality.. while I'm just not watching the show much anymore.. today..

I would rather stream it via flash cause it's already free, faster than downloading it (instant playing) and better quality.. this scenario I just outlined is one way that usenet will be replaced

Yea the idiots advertised on their page that you could get any music free and listed like top hits. They were asking for it... Well if it ever comes down to no more usenet everywhere and every single provider gets taken down I will just go back to what I was doing before. Ripping movies from netflix/redbox

Comedy Central's streaming service isn't available everywhere in the world.
Yah, I know this having been to canada and been denied for having a .ca ip address.. (though a proxy could have fixed it)

But the idea is they'll come around to everywhere eventually

There's no need to take a step back.. the future is only getting easier/brighter..
