I have encountered several users with Netgear routers that fail to renew the DHCP address with OOL.. Next time it goes out, log in to your router and choose the option to manually renew your IP (I dont know exactly where it is) -- if it corrects the issue, maybe its time to check for a firmware update from Netgear.. If that doesn't work, then maybe its time for a new router.

It's been a while (well over a year) since we've last seen posts about that issue here (certain cheap brands of routers, Belkin immediately comes to mind), so I believe that prob is gone (probably by people buying better routers . I do note that Vista has some DHCP problems of a similar nature (and which Microsoft's own Windows server developers complained about to the OS division), in which they do not properly do directed-broadcast renewals.

Seriously, if you see your cable modem reboot/cycle (and phone dropping is an indicator it is), it's unlikely to be the router at fault.

As all of these issues tend to be either confined to either a.) a single household b.) you and your direct neighbors c.) the node you share with 200-500 households, it'd be helpful to know which area you are in, and to see a dump of docsdiag -v -log output.
