| compatability for cpu
Hey guys,
My uncle has a 2005 HP Pavilion a1020n. I took a screenshot of his CPU info.
I am upgrading his memory to 2GB from 512mb but my real question is can I upgrade is CPU as well?
The only processors I see out there now, that fit his socket 775 LGA, are dual core processors. The hp website says that the FSB of the motherboard is 800, so not a problem. But will it work?

I want to know before I buy any processors.
Thanks ahead! |

Thanks BA for the reply |

If you're looking for a meaningful upgrade, you'll need to replace the motherboard. For instance, a G31 board and an E5200 would be around $100. |

More info on the board would help us determine what you can and cannot put into the machine. |

| reply to Amoris692001 I think (sorry not digging out cd with pdf manual) the ones we have with that processor only went up to a 3.2 P4 or something, so nothing worthwhile. Your manual link seems to say the same upto P4 3.4
Hmm, hitting the driver link shows a BIOS that says updated to support newer processors but doesn't say which. Possible it will take a Pentium duo of some sort. Generally haven't had much luck lately updating a CPU, the change just is not enough to justify the cost and hassle (and a bios upgrade in this case) |
