| [FireFox] display problem when viewing ebay pages
I'm having a very annoying problem when trying to view ebay pages with Firefox 3.5. The pages will have a lot of empty space in the middle of the page so that I must scroll to the right to see all the page then back again. I'm using XP Pro and have a 20" monitor.
I didn't have this glitch with earlier versions of Fx. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do about the problem? |

stev32k Premium join:2000-04-27 Mobile, AL | I found the problem or rather Fast Eddie found the problem and passed it on to me. I had my font size set larger than default and that was causing a lot blank space in the pages. Sounds like a bug to me. |

This was the problem I had »Display Problem
When setting the font size large in FireFox's preferences it fubar'd the eBay Motor ads. I put the font size back to normal and the problem went away. I think eBay changed something that adds to page displaying different when using a different font size. I found the problem only in eBay Motors though. All other auctions were fine.

| reply to stev32k OK, there's something else going on - the ebay pages are spread out again. I haven't changed anything since I reduced the font size earlier and now ebay pages will not display correctly in Fx.
I switched to IE and the pages come up like they should. Anyone have any ideas? |

How about create a new FF profile and try under that one? I tried all of those and in addition I just deleted all fire fox and mozilla files and folders - everything - and started over. Ebay pages still do not display correctly.
I'm now in the process of disabling all plug-ins one at a time to see if one of them is causing the problem. |

Has to be interference in your install from either a plug-in? |

| reply to stev32k Here's a screen shot of an example page. They all look like this one. There is a lot of space in the middle that should not be there. The pages display correctly when using IE.

I've disabled or uninstalled all plug-ins and extensions - that had no effect. I've completely removed all firefox and mozilla files and folders and re-installed Fx - that made Fx start-up much faster and pages load much faster, but still have the ebay display problem.
I'm running Win. XP Pro. |

1 edit | Aha! I just checked that particular auction and I, too, am experiencing what you are experiencing.
Something on that page is different than other ebay auctions (as seen in my previous screenshot).
edit - Here is the shortened link to that auction:

| Here's a thought - it is possible that the problem is not with FF but perhaps with the non-standard HTML used by the auctioneer or the software that created that page.
I am certainly no HTML guru, but as an occasional seller on eBay I would use software to create the eBay page (to make it more flashy than the default, bland page). Occasionally I would run into issues with the HTML produced.
Maybe that page is using a non-standard, IE-specific HTML tag? I believe there are websites that can scan that webpage to see if the HTML code is standard or not. Let me try it and post back. |

| W3C reports 368 HTML errors on that page, as seen at this shortened link of the results: »is.gd/1oWwD
I compared this to a more stripped-down, or bland eBay auction page and that page only resulted in 83 errors being reported.
Again, just a thought that one of those 368 HTML errors is the real cause of the problem and not FF? |

| OK, here's the same page using IE?

|
|
stev32k Premium join:2000-04-27 Mobile, AL | reply to stev32k I browsed around ebay using Fx and you're right most pages are displaying correctly now. There are still a few that have the same excessive space in the middle. I guess there is nothing that can be done about that in FX. |

@nctv.com | Thanks bandit. I went to same page today and FF displayed it fine. It is a mystery, may have been a temporary glitch on eBay. Thanks! |
