kudos:7 | [Serious] Please send some positive thoughts my brother's way? I'm terrified about my brother's health. He had a liver transplant on Thanksgiving Day of '07, but never recovered from it sufficiently to return to work or a semblance of normal living. His body and the anti-rejection meds haven't adjusted to each other.
The last week or so, he's gotten increasingly jaundiced and was hospitalized after blood tests Monday showed problems with the "new" liver. They did a liver biopsy today...had to give him a medication to counteract one of the anti-rejection meds that thins his blood out before the biopsy could be done. Normally, they'd have stopped the medication for a week first, but they didn't have a week to wait. Turns out he has fluid in one of his lungs, too. Don't know what's ahead but have a sick feeling in my gut about it.
I married early so my daughter's 39 and I'm a grandma. He married late and his son is only 12. He'll be 57 in October: not old enough to say, "at least he had a long life, and saw his grandchildren," though certainly longer than many folks get to live. I feel badly about posting but hope that if there's any power in others' positive thoughts, it'll be able to help him.

kudos:7 | Thank you. And again, thank you ALL. He's at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which is where he got the transplant. According to Wikipedia,
... In 2007, Cedars-Sinai was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 17th-best hospital out of 5,462 medical centers in the United States. As a medical center in the Los Angeles area, it has a known past of competing with UCLA the city's foremost medical center. UCLA is ranked 3rd in the nation. ... Unfortunately, he's still had just about every post-transplant complication his doctors have ever seen and a few they hadn't. I don't know whether to hope they can straighten this out or hope for another transplant. He's so frail, I fear for him either way. Of course, ultimately the doctors will decide after getting the biopsy results. |
