Trouble viewing speed test sites with internet explorer 8

I'm wondering if this issue is unique to me or if others have encountered this and can perhaps give me a solution.
I've noticed on my Windows XP SP3 computer with internet explorer 8, I can no longer view the flash applit for sites such as »speedtest.speakeasy.net, which I use regularly to check my line speed. Interestingly though, Youtube and it's flash content comes up fine. also the DSL extreme speed test at »speedtest.dslextreme.com which use to be Java, I'm guessing is now also flash, yet I'm not seeing that applit either.
I'm totally blind, and use a text to speech screen reader to read various parts of the page, and I tried using firefox to view the applits that no longer seem to show up with internet explorer and all my screen reader tells me is that there is flash there, but I don't see the various buttons I should see in order to click them to begin the tests.
Before upgrading to IE8, I could see the speakeasy speedtest flash applit no problem, and DSL extreme's speedtest was still Java at that time. so my main question is, why am I no longer seeing flash content on pages that I've seen the content before updating to internet explorer 8?
and it's not like I've got no flash, since youtube still works fine. I'm most certainly confused. Thanks.

I use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP SP3.
The Adobe Flash works on all sites including the ones you list.
Try Uninstalling Flash by downloading the uninstaller from this page:»kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Reboot your computer after running the uninstaller.
Then go back and reinstall the latest Flash: »get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Then verify it here: »www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Ah yes,
What I believe the problem is, is that with the new Internet Explorer 8, there is actually a slew of different options of allowing Flash ( add-ins ) to run. One of which is: "Allow Flash on All websites" option.
Where you usually see a "Internet Explorer has blocked file attachments", it should have popped up that option on your very first few pages that had Flash content. Did you click the allow all flash content for all pages? If not, what you could have basically done is not have added dslextreme.com to your whitelist for that particular add-in. I unfortunately do not have Internet Explorer on any of my computers, so I cannot tell you exactly how to activate the option. Perhaps try the add-in menu under tools.

kd, seeing that this isn't a DSLX problem, would you like me to move this over to our Microsoft Help forum?

Sure, go ahead and move it there. I posted the question here initially because the DSL Extreme speed test web site was one of those I seem to be having issues with. I tinkered a bit with the custom security settings but couldn't find anything that'd make flash work on the sites I need/want it to work on. I'll have a peak at the links given earlier in this post and see if I can make something work. I know on my friend's windows vista computer, I had to turn off something called Protected mode to get flash to work, but don't even see that option on my XP computer. It's odd to me that Youtube is working fine, while the other sites I mentioned aren't working. I'll continue to investigate. I don't recall seeing anything about allowing flash to run on a web page.
