They don't train you???? No wonder so many, that aren't savy of connections and relying on you all think it sucks. I'm sure Cablvision wouldn't want you to (for discovering other BS) but maybe send them to the tweaks area here.
Yes things do need to be changed that even Vista Winblows will not auto do on its own, once configured for dialup default to start. Though it has gotten very good at recognizing a LAN/NET connection at PC init start up, with no efort... but once you limit it to dial up... you have to undo that. While it might recognise the connectio, it will still have many of the dialuop limitations efficientlcy wise, until reset to BB settings.

| reply to nextelito A little bit more information might be in order:
1. What operating system(s) are you having this issue with 2. What are the LAN settings set to 3. What is the network adapter order configured for (I bet dial up is first) 4. Are these desktops, laptop (which throws wi-fi into the mix), netbooks 5. What router, if any is being used and how is it configured 6. What troubleshooting steps do you typically take to solve the issue (e.g. verifying network card is enabled in the device manager, DHCP settings, etc) |

1 edit | reply to nextelito Also, what "trouble" do they have? Does it say "internet explorer can't display webpage", does it try to dial up, does it say working offline?
I never ran into someone without faulty (or missing) hardware that I couldn't get online with OOL from a previously working dial-up. They have a PC that was able to get online, and are just changing how to get there, so you know it's not a software/browser/firewall issue. It's mostly deleting the dial-up connections, then IE will set itself to "Never Dial a Connection", and it should get you online. If not, check the LAN settings to make sure no proxy settings are selected. A program like outlook will possibly need to be changed to the same sort of "never dial" setting. |
