| Issues with other devices in the house.
I am kinda new to the whole DSL and cable connectivity. I received my modem in the mail since I am far enough out of the way to call for a $75 service charge on top of the fee to come and install. I decided to do it on my own. Install was easy but I kept receiving a T3 Ranging response error. I looked up what could cause it and began searching for the causes. About 2 hours later I have found that my cable box in my living room is driving my Transmit Power level crazy. When the box is plugged in my levels go from 12 dBmV all the way up to 59 dBmV. Also my SNR will range from 31 dB to 39 dB. Unplugging the box gets rid of the errors and keeps my Transmit Power at a steady 55 dBmV and my SNR hovers around 38.0 dB. I know if I call up my company and have them come out they too will see this and surely charge me $75 for coming out to look as well as whatever price they decide to charge for a simple connection or whatever. Anyone out there know how to solve this problem by myself? |

| It most cases that's true, Beachie. However, if the problem is a customer equipment issue they can charge you. In most cases though, as long as you're courteous to the tech in an instant like this, he's not going to charge you. When it comes down to it, it's up to how he codes out his call whether you get charged or not. |

1 edit | reply to Admunck Admunch, Your SNR looks good. The 55db upstream is a symptom of a problem. I like to see lower than 52db but not less than 35db. If the box is back feeding interference then you need to change the box. BHN policy is to not charge a service call unless the customer or a previous resident caused the problem like for example: hooking up some junk quality cables. In other words.. If BHN didn't install the cable or device. What does your downstream levels signal look like? -- GIT R DONE |
