I'm guessing here.

You should be able to assign a static IP to the piece of equipment. Maybe assign 192.168.1.101 so that it is outside the DHCP range. Then, in the 6100 settings, setup STATIC NAT for that device (piece of equipment). That should make it accessible from the internet on all ports.

Are you talking about setting up a static IP on the WAN (Fairpoint) side or a device on your LAN?

If question is how to remotely access a device on your LAN you need to configure port forwarding in the router. Need to tell router which port remote computer will be connecting to and forward that to device on your LAN. Want to make sure LAN device is always assigned the same private IP address. You can do this statically as nwrickert suggested. I prefer using MAC reservation where DHCP server always assign the same IP address to a device based on MAC physical address. This has the advantage of dynamic addressing without the hassle. This feature is called by different names by router vendors.

If you have a static IP from Fairpoint remote access is easy. If not will need to use some type of dynamic DNS service that gets updated each time Fairpoint changes your address.
