2 edits | Clear - Rediculous performance since day 1... Going on wk. 3 Though I had found a good substitute for the crappy Charter internet that has a cable/broadband monopoly in my area.
Was really surprised to find out Clear had rolled out in my area, a smaller market in Texas (Corpus Christi/Portland, TX) as even the larger markets don't have it yet. Apparently it's too good to be true.
I ran speed tests in the Clear retail location and got 6-7mbps consistently, so I bit on it. Got it home and it's been VERY inconsistent. This was August 25th. Initially got anywhere from 1.5 to 6mbps during about the first hour of operation. Then all hell broke loose and I started getting under 1mbps. I've had a speed trans ticket created now for over a week and a half, and by my action because I never got a call back, initiated the 2nd tier tech support. The service is the pick 2 unlimited and I'm beginning to lose patience. I'll keep them around seeing as how Charter is the absolute pits but this is completely pathetic. I'm even getting a full 5 bars at all times.
How they can charge for and advertise a service on the premise that it's xxx fast and can't even meet an acceptable speed for even the lowest tier of service? Apparently the RF techs are supposed to be trouble shooting it in the next 3-5 days. I see nothing more than eternal contract extensions. It's a shame because I really thought this was going to be for real. I get the feeling that since I'm in a smaller town, the less than savvy people here are none the wiser to the shitty performance and that it might be fixed this week... Either that or Clear sticks a small town like this one with shitty infrastructure and worries more about the larger markets. I'm sure there's a certain element of it just coming down to being in a podunk town and everything having to do with it being 2nd rate and useless when compared to a bigger town... But shouldn't WiMAX be consistent across all sites? |

 | I've had the exact same issue - I just got Clear 5 days ago and had the same issue. I'm going to cancel and go back to my cable modem - it was consistant and worked! |

I don't fully understand wave technology So is it congestion that is the problem? How can micro waves ever be congested? I wonder if there is a Clearwire server problem? Maybe it's interference due to solar flares? Is someone piggybacking us?

 | I'm pretty lost as well. They are saying it's a problem with the tower. They have never gotten back with me about my service, the only contact I have is when I call to check status every couple of days. |

Re: Clear - Rediculous performance since day 1... Going on wk. 3 I understand your Clear ordeals! But I hope that you and the others who write about these problems would put up REVIEWS here on the dslreports web site so that someone at Clear will some day accidentally read them and start a discussion at Clear headquarters about their sloppy service. Just click the Reviews link on the left side of the homepage and write them up!
Good luck with your service. |
|
 | That's just it... I don't believe to date, I've had even an experience worth reviewing yet because the service hasn't even come on line in its full operating capacity yet. |

1 edit | reply to nocigar Just ran these

I think the sad thing is that I'm signed up for a plan on a 2 year agreement that is supposed to be unlimited (rivaling speeds of cable), and that is costing me about the same as a 12mb/s cable connection. |

| nocigar, OK I hate to ask this dumb question, but...........
Uh, how do you copy and post the graphics of the "speedtest dot net" results -- such as the ones you posted above.
I'd like to post one of my typical upload and download test results to show the miserable speeds Clear now produces.
I miss the "old" Clearwire with 5 lights and full speeds. |

 | reply to nocigar Well something miraculous happened last night/early this morning from about 1am to about 2pm I was getting very good speed. As late as 2pm cst I was getting over 7mbps. I shut the computer off about 3/4 of the way through the cowboys/bucs game and got busy cleaning my place up. Now, as I type this I get this:

Would I be wrong to suspect they are throttling ? |

Thanks w0g for the tip on pasting a speedtest. Let's see if this works. BTW, I'm paying for 2 Mbps, I usually get around 600 Kbps, got 2 solid lights, and I got this jewel a while ago for this pasting test. |

For some reason, I've been noticing when the test runs, it likes to hover right around 500k |
