Changing ip and subnet of unlocked 5200

Hey there,

I'm having a hell of time figuring out how to change my constant profile IP address so that I can move to a different LAN subnet. The instructions here:

»Unlocking your Speedstream 5200 E242

seem to suggest that you simply navigate to »192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=E···retain=f to do this, but there is no tab or link or anything that refers to "Profile Configuration Access" as the howto suggests.

Anybody have any ideas here? I'm currently locked to 192.168.0.101 as the IP from where I can have admin perms to the 5200, but as I mentioned, i need to move subnets, so I need to change that. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks.

Try clicking on 'NEXT' four times, the fourth or fifth screen of the wizard allows you to assign that setting, then click FINISH. This only changes the IP address that allows a certain machine access to the admin pages, the IP on the LAN side of the modem will still be (192.168.2.1) on a (255.255.255.0) subnet. There is no way to change the subnet, only the IP.

However, you might be able to change the LAN device IP of the modem if that would help, I have never attempted to change it so I can not verify if it would work.

»192.168.2.1/hostcfg.htm (modem LAN IP / subnet)
»192.168.2.1/dhcpcfg.htm (modem LAN DHCP settings)

(also for kicks I have included my navlantern file, I think it has most of the usable links from the modem. It is based on the original set of files that can be found within the original unlocking thread, I don't recall the name of the poster but it is based on his post.)
FYI: MS' IE browser will ask for permission before running as the page contains scripts; the links will launch the desired page in a new window. The page can be modified in any text editor if you wish, I recommend changing the tuna coloured background to something else

Hmmm, I must be doing something wrong. When I go to that link, all I get is the framed page with all the links on the left, and the navlantern page on the right. There is no next button. Seems that it's not going to the pfwizard thing at all. I'm using firefox, hopefully that's not the problem. I can't run IE as I'm on linux.

I could try installing another browser if you think firefox is the problem here.

Not sure it could be a browser issue, just for fun I have included a screen shot of what your link (»192.168.2.1/pfwizardj.cgi?code=E···retain=f) looks like in IE7

Unfortunately I don't see a way just to get to the page you want (via an address), the actual address never changes as one navigates through the script (included pic of that page).

When i go to the pfwizard link, it ends up taking me directly to the index page immediately. It's as if pfwizard.cgi isn't on my 5200.

And as you said, I could change the ip and subnet of my router, but I need to also change my pc's ip to be in that subnet, and before I do that, i want to know how i can change the ip that the router grants admin access to, which is why i'm trying to run the pfwizard.

Thanks for the navlantern zip, but I already had all that from the original 5200 unlocking post. Thanks anyway though.

Mine (navlantern) had a few add-ons, though nothing that will help. The wizard did work with a very outdated version of mosaic's Opera (ver 7.2 - some legacy tool which was included as part of the recovery program on an older system I keep - (it has a serial port)).

My 5242 died some time back & Bell kindly sent be the older version (5200 - e240) so I am not sure if you have the latest firmware or earlier version. You have me stumped as to why it doesn’t work, you could try resetting it and attempt to unlock it again, however I recall issues that Bells most recent firmware breaking the unlock procedure.

Doctor Olds See Profile knows a great deal about these modems, and routinely posts in the Efficient Hardware forum: »Efficient he might have an answer.

eh

@videotron.ca

From what I recall with the E242 and the 4200 (and I may be wrong), is that you have to roll back the firmware to an older one, then unlock it. Reconnecting will cause the firmware to be re-upgraded, so you may have to disable the 0/33 maintenance circuit or do something else to prevent it from upgrading.

Or I think there exists other telco firmwares that you can use and then you need only change the vpi/vci to 0/35

Many have done either of the above. But many posts get moderated/deleted when firmwares get tossed around. So it's something someone should/can PM you about like in previous cases for these two types of modems.

I'm also confused how you get to the modem page using those links since it says in your pic that you are 192.168.0.1 and the links are 192.168.2.1

Clicking the "User Profiles" link opens a page with the current profiles
Clicking the profile name allows edits to the profiles settings

I think that's the only way to access and edit a profile

My e242 is already unlocked. So I don't know why i'd have to unlock it again. As for why i'm going to 192.168.0.1 instead of 192.168.2.1, this is because, after I unlocked my e242, i changed my subnet to 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0, and also changed the modem's ip address to 192.168.0.1. So that's how i connect to it now.

To rule out a browser bug in firefox, i tried epiphany, but got the same result. So it's unlikely a browser issue.
