Too risky... Back in the ol days it was standard to hack or find a hacked ftp server and upload all your crap to and they would be distributed privately or through IRC.

I think you've been on the wrong private ftp servers.

I agree with Usenet. With private FTP you have to logi to the FTPs to see whats on there, and your connection speeds depends on what internet connection the hosting FTP server is sitting behind. I can max out my connection on multiple usenet providers.

Yeah, but FTP sites get stuff before torrents do as release groups release their stuff on sites (this is how it gets pre'd). It is then raced to other ftps within seconds.

Plus, it's free. And any decent ftp is atleast multiple Gb/s so you always max out.

I found the key to success but somebody changed the lock.

If you're going to pay for usenet, you might as well get some hardware for a "topsite" and get leech.

LinkTech: Most ftp sites are on a 100 Mbps + network, so if you can max that out then you should be hosting a ftp site yourself. =) I have 25 meg down and 5 meg upload and max out my downloads all time on a ftp site.

That's too much. You're better off buying them a few hard drives.

anything found on newsgroups or torrents can easily found on the web using free hosting sites like rapidshare or megaupload.

Just remember that most of the stuff on free file hosting sites are used for websites, blogs and what not....alot of passwords and changed file names.
Better off finding the stuff you need through blogs and get the detailed release info scene or p2p and quality as well as password than just useing free file hosts like a p2p program.

I do agree with ya. Passwords and file name changes are the norm for this method. However, if you are a casual warez person then it's probably not a big deal.
