| [Wired] BEFSX41: Firewall limits speed
Hello, I have a BEFSX41 with firmware version 1.52.10.
Recently my ISP upgraded my internet connection from 10Mbit to 20Mbit, but I've never been able to get a higher speed than 13.5Mbit. After some tests I found out that the firewall of the router is the problem. When I turn the firewall off, I do get the full 20Mbit.
Is there anything I can do, besides buying a new router, to keep the firewall enabled and also get the full 20Mbit?

Reno, NV | Buying a new router is pretty much your only choice. Your broadband speeds have finally exceeded it's throughput capacity when using the SPI firewall.

I had the same problem when testing out a BefSX41 for reseale, I had to turn off SPI to restore speed ou 20Mbs. |

Does this only affect the BEFSX41 woth SPI or other routers too in general? |

| I'm sure that certain using certain processor intensive router functions can slow all routers down to some degree, but modern routers have faster processors with higher throughputs than the SX41 does. So the loss of a little throughput on the newer routers isn't noticeable because they can still exceed the commonly offered broadband speeds while doing everything. This SPI slowdown on the SX41 wouldn't have been noticed if no one had broadband speeds that exceeded ~13-15 mbps.
The design of the SX41 is what 8, 9 years old? Ancient! AFAIK, the design and components haven't been refreshed except for the loss of the LEDs on the front panel for version 2. |
