| [Tomato] Farmville Intervention with WRT54GL + Tomato
I have a 'friend' that is spending way too much time on FarmVille on Facebook. I'd like to see if I can quantify how much time they are spending on it before I decide if I need to intervene (otherwise they will just deny their addiction).
I am currently running Tomato on the WRT54GL. To log the activity, I should set up CIFS, correct?
Is there a way to filter what gets logged so that only this traffic gets logged?
What do the FarmVille requests look like for me to filter?
I'm not at home right now so I can't fiddle with Tomato to see how and what CIFS logging works. Nor do I play FarmVille so I don't have an easy way to set up something (Fiddler, WireShark, etc.) to see what the traffic looks like.
Thanks! |

| Perhaps this person is spending so much time that he's neglecting his other duties in life, such as working, bathing, being a parent, etc. I've seen it happen firsthand with other online games.
There's having fun, and then there's addiction. I'm assuming in this case it's the latter. |

| reply to mattsmith321 For what its worth, you really can't spend much time 'playing' Farmville. Once you plant crops, you have to wait a period of time before the crops are ready. The shortest item growth is 4 hours, and most are between 1 and 4 days, actual time.
Yeah I play. I can quit anytime I want.

I wouldn't necessarily call it an addiction or necessarily a problem. The 'friend' just isn't making too much forward progress on some tasks and complains that there isn't enough time. Yet the majority of time that I am around them, they are clicking away on their farm for an hour or two at time.
At this point, it intrigues me on how to go about it from a technical standpoint. |

| said by Johkal :If these "tasks" don't impact you, then leave it alone. Obviously they must, otherwise I wouldn't be bothering with this. And, as mentioned in my last post, it is becoming something of a technical challenge now. But I do have better things to do so I'm really not spending much/any effort on this.
Unfortunately, the logging from Tomato doesn't give me much to go on. |
