Difference between these 2 Intel SSDs

What is the difference between the G2C1 and the G2R5 besides the G2R5 being retail and the G2C1 OEM?

I really don't need the box or manual but I was wondering if there are any accessories in the retail version that I'll need to install the drive?

Edit: I've just read that these drives come as 50nm and 34nm. Which type would be best?

Many thanks
Martinus

You want the second generation G2 34nm. It has better performance than the G1 50nm and intel isn't providing firmware updates for things like trim for the G1. The G2 should also be cheaper, though it may not be at the moment.

That's about it. Retail should have the brackets to install in a drive bay, cables.

That's what I thought. Gotta check if I have some brackets laying around. Could save me a few bucks.

Keep in mind they are 2.5".

You can always just lay them in the bottom of your case or tape them up somewhere with electrical tape. You don't have to be very particular about it.

That doesn't look right for a HD but, then again, SSDs have no moving parts so I guess that would be OK?

Edit: This may be a noob question - I've never had an SSD before - but what about temperatures? Do SSDs heat up? I'm thinking about the electrical tape melting...

They get warm but shouldn't get really hot.
They are generally fully enclosed with no exposed circuit boards so there is no danger of shorting something and it doesn't matter which way they lay.
If you don't move your machine you don't even have to tape it. You could just connect it and lay it in the bottom of your case. It would be best to remember to secure it or disconnect it before transporting the box somewhere.

And if you are really concerned about the tempature of these SSD's then you can always just have a fan blowing across them for a little cooling... won't need much
