[OC] What's faster...

I know that you can have a better balance with better quality ram but whatever...

What's faster:
1) slower clock with ram at 1600 and aggressive timing.
2) faster clock with ram under 1600 with aggressive timing
3) faster clock with fast over 1600 ram and slow timing

Oh and it's for Core i7 920 D0

#1 would be last..

I would say #3 would be best... Benches should tell you the truth though

it is all relative. How much faster is faster? First as stated is always slower. FSB is king, and lowering timings to get a much faster FSB will be best.

Yeap I relaxed my timing to about 10,10,10,26 and I can run 250 more Mhz on my corei7.
It sure helps a lot in rendering.

To some extent your question kind of depends on what your really doing...

For example,

If you do something where you have vast amounts of physical memory and you need very fast access to the data (think about some kind of time sensitive application's response [ie. Arbitrage]; #3 would likely be your best bet.

If you are doing intensive computational processes (ie, calculating Pi to the 1 billionth decimal, then pure CPU is likely the best bet.

If your requirements are just a nice generally good middle of the road machine, then #1 is perhaps what you want to do.

clock speed >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> timings.
timings means absolutely nothing now
