| [DSL] ADSL modem/wireless router combo
Hi all,
I have recently moved from England and am going to have att dsl service and chose not to use their equipment. I am having a bugger of a time finding a dsl modem/wireless router combo.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
BTW, I have mac and windows xp machines.
Cheers! |

| reply to iAMaCAT I only use the CPE provided by AT&T. AT&T's Help Desk only supports the CPE that they supply.
I do not own and have never used the product below.

Keep these things in mind while configuring any equipment not supplied by AT&T.

| Thanks for the info on config mate. ATT was gonna charge me $100 for the wireless gateway and I thought I could do better...a combo like this was easy to find and reasonably priced in the UK. I'll check out the D-link but may order the ATT equipment in the end.
Cheers! |

$50.00 + S&H is a fair price for one of these units.
This unit is supplied by AT&T Southeast for use with AT&T FastAccess Business DSL service. It will work just fine for residential service.
This unit is ten foot tall and bulletproof. It's what I use at home and work. I would not dream of using anything else. .

The 3347-02-1006L is the replacement for the 3347NWG-006.
Five thumbs up!
"Holy Cow! A small wireless router that has great coverage and all the advanced features and functions you could want! Recently replaced sliced bread as one of the best things ever."
.
EDIT: This unit is not game console friendly due to the fact that it is a Symmetric NAT type device. This problem can usally be worked around though. This unit will eat Torrents for breakfast.

| As I said, I went with the D-Link DSL-2640B and had wired and wireless set up and running within the hour on my Mac and PC.
My flat is only about 850 sq. feet so I haven't gotten a good idea of the range, but it is fine all around the flat and on the balcony. Haven't noticed any dropouts and the speed is what ATT said it would be.
No complaints and would recommend this modem/wireless router combo!
Thanks for everyone's responses! |

| Glad to hear that it worked for you. I tried one of those a few months back, and I had to return it because it would drop the connection overnight, even when set for Always-on. The line statistics were good, and my SpeedStream 4100 B never dropped the connection. Looking at some reviews, other people also had a problem with this model disconnecting overnight. |

| @daveinpoway To be honest I haven't tried it overnight or with a HUGE file so I can't comment about disconnects for these purposes. I did see at least one review where it said it dropped the connection consistently after 6 hours of usage...will let you know my experience when I have need to DL a huge file overnight.
But, to be fair, I also read a few reviews saying the DSL-2640B was difficult to setup/configure and I had no problems with this at all and I am far from a networking expert. I do like to read reviews, but if I never bought anything that had any bad reviews I'd never buy anything. |

daveinpoway Premium join:2006-07-03 Poway, CA | It's always possible that they have improved the firmware for this model since I tried it, and it thus might work fine for you. All I can comment on is what I experienced (with the firmware that they had at the time). |
