Line test question

Hello i'm trying to run a line test. But it keeps giving me a error saying the IP address is not pingable and to remove any ping firewall. Well i don't have a firewall on at the moment and still get this error, can anyone help?

Your ISP may be blocking pings.

No OS firewall turned on? Are you using a router?

No Firewall is on, i uninstalled Mcafee firewall to see if that would fix it. But it didn't. I currently have a Westell 7500 Dsl modem is all.

That modem is also I router. I'll see if I can find someone familiar with it.

From the Westell 7500 User manual:
quote:
If the firewall is set to Medium Security, this will block ICMP packets even if the ICMP service is enabled.

Try setting your security level to MINIMUM.
•Select the Firewall Settings ICON. The GENERAL page should open.
•Select Minimum Security
•Click APPLY.

I did a quick scan of the manual, but did not see an explicit option (GUI checkbox) to enable ICMP responses. If you have already selected minimum security (or none) and are still not sending ICMP responses, try enabling port forwarding for ICMP.

You can find the full Westell 7500 user manual here:
»onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/···uide.pdf
You should also have received a copy of manual on CDROM with the router.

If you're still stuck, please post back.

Well the security is set to none. As for the Port forwarding i don't see any option to set it to anything, do i have to add it to it?

Another thought is firewalls tend to leave settings even when uninstalled, if you can't get it working with the modem you may have to reinstall, and check how it's set.

I found this link on the VZ forums which has some conflicting information.
»forums.verizon.com/t5/High-Speed···B7284AF3
If you can block pings, then you should also be able to unblock them.

According to the 7500 manual, there is a protocol entry for ICMP.

•Go to Firewall Settings; Port Forwarding
•Click ADD. The New PF Rule page will appear.
•You should see ICMP in the pull down service list.
If you don't see ICMP, look for PING or ECHO

Looks like Verizon has some serious problems in Atlanta from the East Coast test, although the
so-0-1-0-0.ATL01-CORE-RTR1.verizon-gni.net
and
P11-0.ATL01-DSL-RTR2.verizon-gni.net
routers were fine on the West Coast test.

There have been problems with the East Coast monitoring site lately and I believe they may be using an alternate Chicago site.

Now that you've got the ping thing figured out, let's move you over to Verizon and see if you can get some help there.

Also would like to add that the error has come up again. I was going to run another line test to see if the error went away or not, but it's not and i'm getting it again

Wanted to add the most recent line test i did »/linequality/nil/2585285, seems worse than my other one
