Sorry, no Diablo III next year.
Zoom
Last week in New York, Blizzard offered a product release roadmap (thanks Kotaku) for the next few years, showing what is to come in 2009, 2010, and a few years beyond. For this year, the company listed World of Warcraft only, however Blizzard obviously plans to provide content beyond 2011 with the release of Cataclysm in 2010 and other content beyond.
As for 2010, Blizzard also lists a few titles other than the World of Warcraft expansion. Included is the highly anticipated sci-fi RTS StarCraft II and the upgraded Battle.net. Also on Blizzard's list is "China Online," an entry we assume represents the updated version of World of Warcraft, specialized for the Chinese requirements.
But what isn't on the 2010 list is Diablo III. Gamers wanting the fantasy-themed action RPG may not see the game until 2011 or 2012 according to the presentation. This period of time will also host a few other titles however, including Blizzard's mystery "unannounced MMO" and the Star Craft II expansion. Battle.net also appears in the "next few years" category; we presume Blizzard will be making modifications and adding new features to the revamped service over the next three or so years.
It's unfortunate that Diablo III isn't making an appearance in 2010. As it stands, the game has been in development for four years, and may remain in development for a possible five. With that said, it may hit store shelves before Q4 2011, giving it a good six years to fester. Anything beyond that will make it qualified as a possible contender against Duke Nukem Forever.

| reply to Koil No big deal. There are many new games coming out next year to make me happy. Diablo III would have been nice, but its not a problem. I am very eager to see what this "mystery MMO" is going to be. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

I say you're wrong, but we're each entitled to our opinions.
You say that, but Diablo 3, SC 2 and the mystery project are already in the pipe. They're not so short sighted as to believe WoW will live forever, and as he said in the article...if and when it does die, wouldn't they rather lose those players to themselves??

C0deZer0Oc'D To Rhythm And PolicePremium join:2001-10-03 Davenport, FL | I understand it is just my opinion, but so far Blizzard hasn't exactly shown much to have me believe they care about anything other than keeping their cocaine money supply continuing to flow (read: WoW). And as a result, it's lead to far too many me-too MMOG's that usually turn me off and have me uninstalling before even the first seven days of a trial are done.
We were supposed to have a real KotOR 3 to finally conclude the story arcs for Revan and the Exile, but EA's jealousy of Blizzard's cash cow has pretty much ensured that it instead became cannibalized into The Old Republic instead. So by this note, even games it's not directly involved in have been affected by the "WoW syndrome" or however you wish to categorize it.
And D3 and SC2 have both been "in the pipe" for how long now? SC: Ghost was also in the pipe, and sounded just like "what the doctor ordered". But what happened to it? Stuff like this is why I feel that Blizzard isn't really going to put a proper effort on non-MMO projects anymore. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

Guaranteed it's going to be something along the lines of Worlds of Starcraft, a space-based MMO. If you've been reading anything about , you would know it's definitely not Starcraft or Diablo MMO. Blizzard has said many times it's something new and has nothing to do with Starcraft or Diablo and not even WoW 2.
It's something new and different. |
