| Ok, what cables do I need to make these work together?
ipod connector | toshiba laptop connector |
The 1st pic is the original iPod Firewire opening (I "assume") this is a Firewire 6 pin? The 2nd pic is the i.Link IEEE port (I "assume") its a 4 pin Firewire?
Should I be looking for a female 6 pin to male 4 pin? |

1 edit | You could use this cable: »www.uxsight.com/product/5847/fir···ble.html
It's just an example; you might find one cheaper at TigerDirect or Newegg.
edit: I believe this is a male-to-male cable. For the other stuff you're asking about, your assumptions are correct. |

I thought the 6 pin connector (for the iPod) would have to be female since there is something in the ipod connector ....but I guess it connects differently.... |

some may call it IEEE 1384 |

@optonline.net | reply to aliasrlz The Ipod has a Firewire400 connector and the Laptop has a Firewire800 connector, so you need a 400 to 800 cable (may be listed as a 1394A to 1394B cable). Check the pin count. |

join:2007-03-27 Sterling, VA | Correct... it's out of focus, but that says "S400" in the pix. That's a 400 MHz firewire port. |

1 edit | reply to aliasrlz Hi Guys,
Sorry for the "out of focus" close up on the laptop connector. It was the best I could with a cell phone camera, lol It does say s400 by it, and the connector (on the iPod) is a firewire ; Its an original 1G iPod (no dock connector back in those days)
I believe its a IEEE 1394 cable M/M like the guys posted earlier that I need. I had one, and didn't realize it, found it in a stack of cables. I tried it out, and it worked -- Even the newest iTunes recognized this classic 1G iPod .....thanks again everyone
EDIT: Typo |

| MHz and Mbps (or Hz and bps, for that matter) are completely different units of measure so that they are unrelated. And it's not "bytes per cycle," it's "bits per cycle," or "bits per second" for bps.
I was thinking frequency (400 MHz) when I should be thinking throughput or speed (400Mbps), and they're unrelated to each other, so technically speaking, he was correct and I was wrong.
Just a slip up. |
