I am now putting my blessing on the beta version of avast! 5.0.239
I had problems with the smtp setting but sded straightened me out and I now approve of passing it on to my friends.
If you have a sacrificial computer, download it and give it a try. It is VERY different from the version you are used to.

| I'll still wait for the final. I tried Avast Beta 5.0.188 and had problems with it ( web shield wouldn't work and it wouldn't update the defs) and told myself i would wait for the final before i ever try it again, don't get me wrong i have been a avast user for years and can't wait for 5 to come out but the beta will never be installed on any of my systems ever again. |

| reply to jadinolf hey jadinolf, you know that I'm a die hard avast fan, but I had to delete the beta. During the latest definition updates it gave one of our laptops a bsod error. I had to do a system restore and un-install the beta. It's not ready for prime time yet, and I think when it does come out of beta, I might wait for the first program update.
Till then I'll use 4.8 on most of my rigs, and MSE on my wife's laptop. -- What else would you do? -- There is hope! |

It seemed fine except I never heard "Virus data base has been updated" in a north American accent.
The beta is now working fine once I established the smtp port. -- Printed on 100% recycled bytes |

The earlier releases were alphas in my opinion.
Good luck with it. -- Printed on 100% recycled bytes |
