 MiniNova's a bust...

Mininova limits its activities to Content Distribution service

Published on November 26, 2009 in Mininova-related news. 93 Comments

Hi all,

Today is an important day in the history of Mininova. From now on, we are limiting Mininova.org to our Content Distribution service. By doing so, we comply with the ruling of the Court of Utrecht of last August.

Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on. We are still considering an appeal at this moment.

We launched our Content Distribution service in 2007. This service allows producers and artists to easily publish and distribute their content for free through Mininova. The launch of Content Distribution has proven to be a success. Countless content owners have used Content Distribution to distribute their content (e.g. albums and documentaries) for free to millions of users. For example, the Dutch band Silence is Sexy released their complete album on Mininova and received the Interactive Award 2009 for doing so. The Dutch television broadcaster VPRO decided to start using Content Distribution in 2009 in order to distribute documentaries.

We would like to thank you for your support. Especially everyone that contributed to Mininova receives a big “thank you!” for the effort! We hope to keep welcoming you on Mininova and our other projects (e.g. Snotr, Dispostable).

Thanks! The Mininova staff.

TL;DR- MiniNova is only serving legal content. One down, 9346362 to go **AA fuck boys!

I still like the idea of serving starving artist's torrents; gives us another avenue for distribution.

you signed up? lol, I guess some tor's didn't have comments, but most of the ones I found had a lot of comments, which is why I went there. It was a good site because of that.

I only signed up because of an idiot post.. you had a lot not knowing what to do.

Oh well I guess it's time to pay my way into IPtorrents now.

I'd never pay a dime to a torrent site; that's ludicrous.

I was there for Suprnova which was a beast of a site 6 years ago, then when it became MiniNova. It was a great site for many years... btjunkie's still the shit though.

Looks like Suprnova is going to take the place of Mininova on my list of torrent sites bookmarked.

Though I'll be using BTJunkie and The Pirate Bay for most of my torrent needs.

Edit: another good up and coming public torrent site to take the place of Mininova is »www.kickasstorrents.com/

Sad to see this happening to Mininova but it was in the cards for a while.
Beware of start-up wannabe sites delivering malware
Mininova removes links to copyrighted files

Ten alternatives to Mininova. Some will work for you, others may not.
Torrent sites that re-direct to another for the actual d/l are not worth their salt, IMO.

Especially those with no user comments. That's one of the things that made Mininova such a good site for torrents.

Not all the sites currently running have user comments on them.

I agree with all. I was using mininova for quite some time now and really has helped me on some things. I've been mainly downloading tv shows that I've missed as of late. I was even downloading from them on Thanksgiving Day at my sister's cause they had cable (and man was it a fast connection ). I just went there a few minutes ago and found that note (posted above) and was saddened. I started to post a comment on their site but that was closed. (sigh) Now to find other sites that can suit my needs. BTW, I knew this was going to happen especially since TPB is now no longer and Demonoid has been up for months now .

How much are you willing to pay me for my account?
