IIgsPremium join:2002-10-05 Montreal, QC kudos:1 | [Firmware] WRT54G - Language change, need "en_lang.bin" file fro Came across a Linksys WRT54G (version 6) router, but the former owner installed a German version of the admin firmware so all the menus and options are in German-only.
The solution, at least part of it, is to type in the address: 192.168.1.1/language.html
However, it asks to load in a language pack file which can ONLY be found on the original Linksys CD (which of course, I don't have). Apparently the file I require is called "en_lang.bin" and has to come from a WRT54G setup CD. It's in a folder along with other language packs. It's possible I would need the file from a CD that shipped with a version 6 or higher of the WRT54G.
I've tried searching online but to no avail. Is there anyone out there with the Linksys CD who could e-mail that small file? I really would like to have the menus in English rather than German. |

I did (left out the factory reset, but don't think that would change anything) but it's still stuck in German. Apparently it preserves the installed language pack even if you update the firmware.
The only other solution I can think of, is flashing a third party firmware to wipe out everything, and then flash back the Linksys firmware. It'd be easier of course if someone has that file I need though.... |

 | That might be your only choice (unless you are up for learning German).
Checked the disk that came with my router - did not find the file. |

| Not on mine, its is just full of norton av stuff linksys bundled with the router at the time (different hardware version), the files seem to date around 2004. (Disc has been sitting in a drawer till now)
Have you seen this post (2nd last one)? »forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksy···id=14197 A user reports that he simple ignored the request and the router menus updated to English, again the hardware/firmware are different but if you haven't tried it yet it could be worth it.
Edit: Found one, though it does not match your hardware version or firmware. »victek.is-a-geek.com/Repositorio···4.30.11/ |

IIgsPremium join:2002-10-05 Montreal, QC kudos:1 | I did come across that thread last week but somehow skimmed over that particular post...
A user reports that he simple ignored the request and the router menus updated to English, again the hardware/firmware are different but if you haven't tried it yet it could be worth it. Hah! Believe it or not, THAT ACTUALLY WORKED! All my menus are in English now, even after a factory reset. Yay!
Never noticed the "Save" and "Cancel" buttons below because they were in German, and unlike some words, not something that even slightly resembled their English counterparts (some parts of the menus I could make sense of, even though I don't speak German).
Tried that one last week. It won't work, the firmware and language pack are specifically for the Linksys WRT54-GL. No matter, just ignoring the request to load a language pack and clicking "save" (or außer in German) did the trick! It's all good now.
Thanks for pointing that out! Tried the router and it's working fine! Not sure what I'll do with it since I already have a v2.0 running Tomato though. |

| Glad it worked, Version 6 is somewhat limited in functionality (8MB ram, 2 MB flash), thought it can run some 3rd party firmware (DD-WRT micro) the feature set is limited due to the lack of ROM space. In its current state it does have removable antennas which can be useful, and with the wireless & routing features off can be a 4 port switch. Now that you dont need to know German to use it you could sell it to a much larger market.
Change firmware and you can configure it as a wireless client, very useful if you need intranet/Internet access and you don't have a long enough cable at hand. Keeping it preconfigured to connect to your wireless network means you can let a house guest make use of your wireless without given them the encryption key (ok it is not as sleek as a USB wireless stick but it gets the job done). |
