Maxing out case space.

When you run out of space in your case for new hard drives. What would be the next solution? Buy an external USB hub then buy docking stations?

Today, an External 1TB USB 2.0 drive is a relatively low cost option...

However, If you happen to have the extra cash on hand, you'd be hard-pressed to fill up a Drobo...

eSATA. USB is slow.

Look for enclosures that include a bracket to bring a SATA port to an external eSATA plug. Other cheaper ones will just have a SATA plug that you run a long cable through hole somewhere directly to a SATA port.

I'm running one of each and they both work fine, but obviously the bracket is much more convenient once installed. Also that enclosure has USB as well while the other one is just SATA. That might be fine if all you want is the equivalent of an extra internal HD, which is what I use them for.

If you have free 5.25" bays, get a 3.5" to 5.25" drive adapter.
