 | CenturyLink Las Vegas Speed Upgrades I heard a rumor that CenturyLink is going to be offering 25 Mbps ADSL2 in Las Vegas soon and also that they're testing 60 Mbps in parts of the city. Can anyone confirm any of this or have any more information about this? Any help would be much appreciated. |

I talked to CSR earlier today and (not surprisingly) she was clueless about any speed upgrades. CenturyLink needs to make an (upward) move here in Vegas and soon. Cox is embarrassing them here. |

I don't know the details, but I'd imagine they're running fiber. That's why I made a post in the forums here to see if anyone had any new info other then what I knew. I checked their website again today and they still don't even have the 25 Mbps listed yet. I'm surprised their CSR's don't know anything though since they're supposedly supposed to be rolling out 25 real soon. |

ADSL2+ annex M is the likely next step for the system, unless they go with a Uverse type setup, which I would prefer. 60 down would take fiber or a similar setup to Uverse.
Here is a Wiki page for annex m, as you can see with any "new" technology there are some hurdles. »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITU_G.992.5_Annex_M -- Ofallon, Mo Weather St. Peters, Mo Weather |

 | Spoke to a rep today. She told me they're having training for the 25 meg next week and they're going to be offering it soon, but couldn't tell me exactly when. My guess is in the next few weeks. Anyone know anything more then that? |

| reply to tstolze Annex M is popular overseas. Not so much in the US. Bonded Annex M could get speeds of 40 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up though without too much of a problem, assuming wiring is good and loop lengths are relatively low.
Fiber's a better idea though if you can get it. Much better... |

It seems we always want more, my dream connection would be like 25/25. I would then serve my sights from home and likely have a backup server at a friend/relatives home. -- Ofallon, Mo Weather St. Peters, Mo Weather |

 | Heard another rumor that Centurylink will have most of Vegas ready for 25 Mbps by the end of the month. Guess we'll see. Fingers crossed. :P |
|
1 edit | Heard the 25 Mbps is available in Vegas now, but not everywhere yet. The website isn't updated either so if you want to know if you can get it you have to call CenturyLink and have them check if it's ready in your area. Im prolly going to call them tomorrow and see. Did anyone on here in Vegas get the 25 yet? If so how is it? |
|
 | I called them today. I was on a friend's t-mobile phone so the reception was crappy. If I heard correctly, it corroborates your findings, genzoulv. The upgraded speeds are available in parts of the valley right now with greater coverage to come very soon. I can't be sure, but it sounded like she said there would be both 20 Meg and 25 Meg packages and that they would cost $10 and $20 more than the 10 meg package respectively. I can't be sure though. The CSR had to be getting frustrated with me constantly asking her to repeat herself so I just got off of the phone. I will call back after the holidays to see about upgrading my service. Way to stay on top of things though, genzoulv!! |
|
 | Yeah let me know how it is. Would like to hear about your experiences with it. |
|
 | reply to genzoulv I checked, and here is what I found:
CenturyLink is trialing bonded ADSL2 in Las Vegas, depending on distance a customer can get 15, 20, or 25 Megs all for the same price (they will be provisioned at whatever the line can handle, but the customer service rep should know what they qualify for at time of sale).
The 20 and 25 Meg products have a 2 Meg upload and the 15 Meg has a 1.5M upload.
The pricing is $74.95 (regular price with a phone line); $64.95 (bundle discount price); $54.95 (current promotion price {price good for the length of the term with a bundle then goes up to the normal bundle price}); it is also sold as a stand alone product, but I didn't get the price for that.
In addition to the normal set-up fees ($15 activation) you do have to pay an equipment upgrade fee of $49.99 for a cisco gateway router, but the equipment is owned by the company and must be returned. There is no other equipment options at this time for these speeds.
IPTV is being trialed in Jefferson City, MO, but is using the same technology. IPTV will be coming to Las Vegas next and the speeds should be coming to Jefferson City next... I am not sure if it is an either/or option or if you can get both on one account. -- DSLr Mafia Member Reveal Legislation |

 | Good info, Dezbend. My call back netted me little more than a "next month".
Dezbend, by chance do you know the model number of the Cisco equipment? |
|
 1 edit | It is a Cisco Gateway DDR2200
Also the pure broadband price for this product (any speed) is $84.95
and it sounds like they started selling it last Monday. |
|
 | reply to genzoulv Anyone know when they plan on updating the website? |
|
1 edit | reply to Dezbend Thanks, Dezbend, the info is appreciated!
That Cisco piece does a lot. Of course, wireless-N instead of 802.11G would be nice as would USB 2.0 instead of 1.1, but I imagine that I will be able to just bridge it and keep using my APE if push comes to shove. |
|
 | reply to genzoulv The website is always late in getting updated. And since it is only a small area in Vegas that gets 25M they will not update the site until it is available everywhere. Best bet is to call and talk with a rep. |
