[360] Kicked off xbox live when another xbox signs in.

Very weird problem I am encountering. I am connected to live through the ethernet port. When a second xbox, which is connected through the 360 wifi adapter, signs in, it disconnects the first xbox from live. I am able to sign back in after rebooting the router. Has anyone every experienced this issue and how would I be able to fix it?

Do you have the same user account on both xboxes? And if so are they the default account?
What I mean is, let's say you have the Gamertag "Mudvayne" on both systems and it's the default account, what that means is when the system is fired up it will log that account in. And of course each gamertag can only be logged in on one system at a time.
Make sure that you don't have them logging in to the same gamertag at the same time.
Could just be that. Of course, if they are logging in to different gamertags then I have no idea. lol

It is different gamertags. I don't understand also. It is just so annoying.

Sounds like the 2nd xbox that is connecting to the network is temporarily hogging all the bandwidth for whatever reason...can you monitor your traffic by IP and see if that is what is truly happening?

Is the issue present if you sign the wireless Xbox in first and then the wired?

I will try that tomorrow when I get a chance and post back. I sent an email to Xbox live support but I figure I am going at a dead end there and they will just blame it on the router.

You didn't change the mac addresses of the Xbox's did you? I'm thinking if they are the same the router might have an issue with that as well?

I did not change the mac addresses.

This is what Xbox support replied with

"With a router, you can connect more than two Xbox consoles to Xbox Live. However, you must have two times the bandwidth to connect two Xbox consoles, three times the bandwidth to connect three consoles, and so on. If you cannot connect more than one Xbox console to Xbox Live, you may not have sufficient bandwidth to support multiple consoles. "

As of this moment I am having major problems with my internet connection and it should be fixed within a week. I am guessing since my bandwidth is extremely slow at the moment that this may be the problem.

i had a friend who moved in with other friends who had the same problem. There was 4 xboxes in the house. He ended up paying for static IP's from att uverse and gave each xbox an IP. He said hes been ok ever since. I will have to ask him about this for sure but i think that's what happened. Something about both xboxes showing up as same IP address at Microsoft.

It must be a bandwidth situation. I was playing COD last night and got kicked off. I just signed into the ethernet xbox, left it at the dashboard, then went and turned on the wifi xbox and both are on live with no problem. The IP address is different in both xboxs as well according to the network setting. The ethernet xbox ends in .2 while the wifi ends in .4. Right now my internet is fine but as the day progresses it will get worse. I really hope they fix my internet soon!

edit : Just tried a COD game with the xbox and logged in with the other while in game. Did not get kicked.

yeh i understand you have 2 different ip's but those ip's are internal ip's. Your REAL external IP is the same. So if you both play a game you both have the same ip's and the game cannot tell the difference and kicks one. Thus the need for static outside ip's.

Well it only happens at night when my connection is barely getting over 1mbps. I should be getting 15mbps but more likely 12-15. They claim it should be fixed this week. When we tried it around noon we were both able to log on with no problems when my connecion was pulling 10.

The 360 requires certain ports be forwarded to it. Just like you can't have two machines with the same IP on the network, you also cannot forward the same ports to two separate devices doing different things(there's exceptions but a better protocol to handle that).

You need a router designed to do the advanced translation needed or a unique public IP for each.

Sorry this is not correct. The internal IP's are behind NAT (assuming there's a router involved that provides that) which controls the distro of the gaming packets. The WAN ip then sends out to the network. Same on the incoming to the router. Based on you're statment it would be pretty much impossible for any network w/ 1 WAN ip to do anything, right? Gazillions of connections out there behind NAT using same ports outgoing from a router. This is where UPnP can come into play w/ proper set up from the user end.

Thought the Msoft response of the "double or triple bandwidth" needed was hilarious. This is a true testament that they don't know WTF they are talking about. Yes, different games inherently require different bandwidth needs, but usually you've no idea what those needs are.

Description of setup is somewhat vauge here and w/o really knowing anything about the ISP side FIOS, cable, DSL ??, tend to think this may be more related to the OPs setup than anything else. I've run multiple Xbox's on my network w/ no problems and that's with cable or DSL, it's all in the setup.

Just my 2c.

I stated in my post that during the day my internet connection is fine. Cable connection that is suppose to deliver 15/2. During the evening hours this connection drops down to 1/2. During the day I have used the 360 many times with the other one also online and did not get kicked off. During the evening hours is when I will get kicked off Live. So I feel this has to be the connection issue since during the day it is fine. I don't see how it can be an IP problem if it works during the day. Get my drift?

Ok, so you've got cable, I assume Comcast or Time Warner for your area on a 15/2 tier, I'm on Comcast 16/2 Blast tier here. Motorola SB5100 modem w/ a Netgear router in my setup, 1 pc, 360 & ps3 all hooked up no probs. My son had his friend over recently, brought his 360, hooked it up, he was playing COD while my son was on Street Fighter, both playing on Live, worked fine.

I would say would be to your benefit to at least put in a call to the ISP about the evening prob. If you're seeing that much of a drop at that time, they definetaly need to look into it. DOC 3 upgrades goin on?, over crowded node ? , could be anything. Make sure your taking your modem stats when this drop happens as that will assist in isolated what may be going on. Nothing unusual on your network goin on at that time that may be hoggin bandswidth I presume, sooo.

Peace!

I've been talking to my cable company for weeks (Cablevision). The node is overloaded and they claim it should be fixed this week. It is happening all over the NYC area. I just have to wait it out.

you don't get it. I HAVE 2 XBOXES IN MY HOME. You can't play the SAME 2 games on xbox live even with different ID's. We pay for 3 different xbox id's and cannot play the same game at once. We cant play COD4, Borderlands and some others, you will get kicked out.

Is it because they dont want you cheating on Live? I don't know. Recently (i have uverse) I got static ip's from ATT and gave one to each Xbox and i can now go on with both xboxes with the same game. Live must think its 2 different houses.

Say what you want all you armchair computer guru's. This is how it is plain and simple. It has nothing to do with bandwidth. Have you ever measured the amount of bandwidth some games take up? Its not much.

I have 4 Xbox 360s on a WRT610N v2 connected via ethernet. My sons and I play COD MW2 at the same time together on all 4 boxes. We have several other games that we do the same with.

A properly configured router is key.

You people really need to learn to read. I am sick of posting the same thing over and over. I get kicked off once the other xbox signs on. The other xbox is not even playing a game yet. This only happens at night when the connection is messed up. During the day it is fine. My router is configured correctly if this problem does not occur during the afternoon.
