My issue is within the past few weeks on Xbox Live, I've been having serious lag that causes my matches to freeze in-game, which is very unusual and hasn't been an issue since recently. Cache, cookies, Temp Int Files are all cleared. Hopefully Tweaking will eliminate the problem?

The URL for the LQT does not link to the test, Can you please provide the correct link or rerun the test?

Is this your ISP? »www.cincinnatibell.com/consumer/···h_speed/

If so, that is DSL and not cable. This is what it says about ZoomTown: Reliable High-Speed Internet with up to 768Kbps download speed and up to 384Kbps upload speed. Great for casual browsing and email.

Is that what you have?

Yea that's my isp, but I've never had problems with playing Xbox live and this lag, I understand I don't have the fastest connection but I don't know why this is happening now and not before.

here's a new link:

• »Tweaking FAQ »I'm getting latency and/or packet loss. What can I do? Read this FAQ and do what it suggests.

• Call your ISP and ask them to check your signals; do a ping test to you looking for high latency and packet loss.

Download DrTcp

Set Tcp Receive Window to 18876

Set Windows Scaling, Time Stamping, Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.

Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank

Using the drop-down menu in The Doctor set your NIC’s (Ethernet adapter’s) MTU to 1492.

Save/Exit DrTcp

Reboot

Rerun the Tweak Test

Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs

Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512

Note your transfer rate after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.

Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test.

I talked to Zoomtown Tech, he said I have the 768kbps-5mbps package, and at the time I was running at 3mbps. He told me there were no issues with my signals.

Tweak Test:
»/tweakr/block:···a=normal
Please note- When asked my advertised download speed for the tweak test, I put 5mbps as my max instead of the 768kbps which I thought was my max on my previous tweak test.

Chicago IL Speakeasy -Download Speed: 2445 kbps (305.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 653 kbps (81.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Atlanta GA Speakeasy - Download Speed: 2425 kbps (303.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 654 kbps (81.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
I tested the Atlanta one again after that and got - Download Speed: 721 kbps (90.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 652 kbps (81.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Could that be some latency problems?

The download test- roughly 90-93kbps transfer rate.

Looks to me like out of my original 3 speedtests, the zoomtown website's one was more accurate. I'm assuming the DrTCP program proved the first 2 tests of my original 3 to be innacurate?

First, if you are provisioned for 5mb and you are syncing at 3mb, that says that there is an issue.

Second, the Tweak Tests indicate packet loss at your hop.

Third, the Tweak Test shows a transfer efficiency: 85%. Not very good.

Did you ask for a ping test for latency and packet loss?

Speed tests on the ISP's site usually are better than on remote sites. You are playing in the ISP"s backyard and not out there in the real Internet world.

The Doctor and the Tweak Test do not perform any speed test.

• Use the same script ask above but use 29240 for the RWIN.

Ok, sorry about the delay, I've contacted my ISP 3 times and the first 2 times they were having trouble finding any issues with my connection.

They indicated my signals are fine, and they told me that I can ping myself, so I did. 4 packets sent and 4 packets received with 0% loss.

I just got off the phone with my ISP for the 3rd time, so I haven't been on Xbox Live yet to see if the lag has changed, but the technician did help me get a stable download speed of 2.0-2.5mbps. He also said that they offer between 768kbps and 5mbps DL speed, and it's common for it to be in the middle. And the speed is also effected by my distance from the network location.

Should I run anymore tests?

ok I've changed the RWIN, is it necessary to keep the computer ON while playing xbox live in order for DrTCP to do its work? I was told that having my pc and xbox on would cause lag, so I rarely have both on.

I played for about 2 hours, the first 30 mins it was just fine, then it progressively got worse after that. 1hr 15min into playing it was nearly impossible to play. I've continued to ask others in-game if they get the same lag, most say no, and they can see how bad mine is. I'm going to try again with my pc on this time, see if it does anything, ill edit with an update.

The Doctor is a one shot deal. It set the values in the registry and that's it. You can turn the PC off if you want.

Is this the first time you used the Xbox?

Run another LQT and lets see what it looks like.

PC on or off doesn't seem to change the lag. The lag is so inconsistant. I can be lag free for hours, then non-stop lag for hours, and it can be a mix for any certain amt of time.

I've been using this ISP on Xbox Live for 1 year and 1 month, this began happening the end of December 09 till now.

Here is my LQT: »/linequality/nil/2612028

I did some browsing about latency issues, and found these 2 registry tweaks on a forum. I've done both and have had minimal results, have you ever seen this done before?

»elitistjerks.com/f15/t17761-serv···/p8/#199

I also did a few ping tests:

After that 2nd one it told me to test using another server:

The LQT still shows latency and packet loss at your hop.

See if you can get the MODEM/Router stats and line speed.

»AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How do I access the Westell line stats and logs? What do the numbers mean?

Can you post the URL for a Tweak Test? The other ones expired.

When I try to access the modem interface using the launchmodem or 192.168.1.254 it tells me page cannot be found. I then tried going to LAN Properties > Internet Protocol Properties > and checking Obtain an IP Address automatically, and it was already checked. I rebooted anyway and this still didn't let me access the modem.

Here's a new tweak test:

The Tweak Test pings do not look too bad.

Try this and see if you can get inside the MODE/Router »clanspace.com/r0/download/629488···icon.zip

That's it ....

All the signals are in the good to excellent range. You are also not dropping and frames or have CRC errors.

Your MODEM/Router is syncing at 3mb down and 768kb up.

Is your only issue is when you use Xbox? The LQT's do show packet loss and latency at your hop, but your stats just don't support it.

Can you ping and tracert to you gaming site that you use with Xbox?

i pinged bungie.net and after 4 "Request timed out", it had 4 packets sent and 0 received, with 100% loss...(this is with my firewall off)
so i tried various other gaming sites...
miniclip.com - 4 sent and 3 received
flyordie.com - 4 sent and 4 received
callofduty.com - 4 sent and 4 received (another xbox game)
assassinscreed.com - 4 sent 4 received (another xbox game)

i pinged bungie.net several times with the same result, if I'm getting 100% loss wouldn't that mean I can't play at all due to serious latency? I am playing it about every other day now, and the latency IS better, but still very unstable.

as for the Tracert...

You have to be careful when reading pings and tracerts. Just because you get a "timed out" does not not say that there is packet loss.

Many routers and sites are set to not to respond to pings. Bungie.net is rejecting pings. That's why you have timed outs starting at hop 13. Up to hop 13 the tracert looks good.

The pings to the other game sites are OK. You dropped one packet to miniclip.com. When you run a ping test ping the site at least 20 times. Add -n 20 to the ping command.

You may just be a victim of routing by your ISP. I cannot see anything that sticks out as being an issue.

ok, well like i said it is better, it certainly hasn't been as bad as it was.

my ISP did say to get a router, do you think that would effect my latency? if so, do you recommend any? Lynksys is good I've heard.

Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate your patience working with me, I've learned some new things.

A router will not improve your packet loss and latency. What it will do is add another layer of protection between you and the evils of the Internet. Also, if you add another another PC or laptop it will be the conduit for your network.

I have had Linksys (now Cisco) routers and they worked just dandy. Other folks may have a different cut on it.

I hope your connection improves some more; good luck.
