i got a vip722 dish network hd dvr it has a ethernet port. can i hook this to my home network and access it from my computer. i also head you can do ppv and stuff on computer anyone know where i can get a guide on how to do this.
I hadn't heard that this was active yet. Try the layered approach.
Layer 1 Physical: Have you tried plugging it in to a router? Do the lights go green?
Layer 2/3 DLC/IP: Does the 722's MAC address show up in your router's attached devices list or a PC's arp list? Getting an IP address properly assigned would be an issue at this point if the interface is not ready for prime time.
Layer 4/5 ICMP ... Have you tried pinging it? TCP ... Or connecting to port 80 (http)? Or telnet to port 23? -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your Lat-Long: Geocoder

reply to jaso109 Right now the ethernet port will allow you to download on-demand movies, program the DVR remotely, and replaces the requirement for a phone line to avoid an additional fee.

That's great! Thanks. Never mind all that garbage I said.
reply to jaso109 I've had my 722 plugged into ethernet since I got it, but the wife STILL wants a phone line plugged in so she can see the Caller ID when the phone rings. -- DSL Extreme 6.0 (Home) Wildblue Pro Pack (Work)
