With so many ISPs to choose from

... who cares if Verizon is acting like copyright cop.

Maybe in New York but that is definitely not the case in huge parts of the US.

Meh.. in those parts of the US where ISP selection is limited, I'm sure a network subscriber has bigger things to worry about.. like the job market.

Not necessarily. What if your choiced for broadband is Verizon and some other company that has a history of filtering, handing out DMCA + piracy notices, and kicking people off?

So Verizon would lose those customers they would be happiest to lose.

Which ones? The ones who pay the most for their service?

Yeah, the ones who sign up for 50 Mbps service for $130+ a month. You just have to HATE those people.

Meh, I have friends on Comcast with the 16/2 plan. They mostly use Usenet these days. I'm paying more for internet than they do, but have a much higher proportion of legal content flowing through my pipe.

YES. Because those paying $50/mo are transferring maybe 15 GB/mo. And those paying $130 are transferring 1TB/mo. Hardly proportional.

Stupid people using your product and paying top dollar. I hate 'em.

I say boot them all from the network based on the nebulous, unsubstantiated claims of an industry whose failure to adapt to the modern broadband age is resulting in a complete implosion and a relentless series of utterly idiotic business decisions. Am I right?

only for an outbound sales rep to sign them back up a few days later because the epic fail telecom billing systems likely dont have a flag for do not sign up for internet. or rep gets a supervisor override so their team looks good on the quarterly sales reports(because in telecom call centers sales are considered #1, its why even on a trouble call they pitch something to you).

Last I checked the only involvement ILECs have with their resellers of network access is their line lease agreements.
