 | COD:MW2 how is it going so far? A buddy of mine said there was a lot of cheating going on the PC version. Is that true? |

Detoxx join:2009-12-28 Carlsbad, CA | It really depends on what game mode you like to play. Ground War by far has the majority of "hacking" going on. I would assume it's because of the larger capacity for players then normal game modes.
This is also my experience. Some people claim to have little encounters with cheating. |

| reply to Zigawrath I hit a cheater about once every 30 games or so. Probably one a week. I don't play ground war though, so maybe thats the difference. The game is fun, but the lack of dedicated servers is sad. I will probably not be playing this game much once as Bad Company 2 comes out in beta on Thursday. Then I have Global Agenda and Champions Online as well on the MMO side. I have a lot of games to play and not much time to play them. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

 | reply to Zigawrath there was a fair amount of cheating on the consoles as well. ive seen a handful on the 360 in the last 4 weeks. the other night i was playing and as soon the match started some dude started mic spamming about wanting someone to help him glitch. i usually play hardcore so i TKed his ass the entire match and he left as soon as it was over. i ended with -800 points and i'd gotten 3 real kills that rd. it's the only thing you can do without vote kicking. i dont underrstand why they'd leave out something as simply as votekicking or votemap out of any online game, but then this is my 1st online console game so maybe thats the norm -- Somnambulator - t3h 5133pw41k3r

| reply to Zigawrath So far I am really enjoying MW2. I haven't seen much cheating as I usually play Domination but I do hit the odd one.
As for the dedicated server deal, it doesn't bother me at all as the game seems to always do a good job of changing hosts in the middle of the match if the connection sucks really bad. It does still need some work though as some matches can be very laggy.
Overall I enjoy the game but I really think that BF:BC2 is going to put a quick end to MW2 not because it has dedicated servers but because of the sandbox.
I think players are going to absolutely love blowing up buildings, walls etc. and that you are never truly "safe" no matter how good the cover is. |

| reply to Zigawrath I'm enjoying MW2 multiplayer in FFA and Team Deathmatch modes. I haven't tried any of the other variations. I like the random matchups and can't say that I've actually encountered anything resembling hacking or cheating. I've been accused of cheating-hacking, but that is the usual BS you see when some of the players are kids. I mean seriously, someone has to be cheating just because they killed YOU? Too funny.
It is annoying when the person who is serving the game exits in the middle of a match, but the interface has always managed to migrate players successfully to the next best connection.
It does seem to take a lot longer to "rank up" when compared to COD-4. I'm only at level 39 (1st LT) and generally play a few matches every day.
I've played through single player twice, once in Normal mode and the second time in Veteran mode. Not bad. The Special Ops are a lot of fun, especially when doing them co-op multiplayer. I love the chopper co-op mission at the fast food strip mall (Wolverine?). I'd say it's a great game!

I have yet to play ANY game, console & PC alike, in which a person hasn't found a way to hack and/or cheat. Some games/genres are worse than others, but time is inevitably on the side of cheaters. -- Would you like your ISP to govern how much you can use the web in a month? Votekicking and Votebanning have been in a lot of games and have been a waste of time. For hackers, if the hacker is on your team, the other side complains. You need a certain threshold in order to vote that person out of the game, and thats if EVERYONE is watching.
Admined servers are also not a silver bullet. Sure, its nice to see hackers get kicked by an admin, but in my experience the admins are never there when you need them. Like the cops catching a speeder, you can play 90% of the servers, and I bet you will never see an admin. Those that are there may get it right, but some will kick people having good games instead of kicking those that are really hacking.
Sure, I give the worse case scenario because I have seen both the best and worse case. In the end, there is no silver bullet to fixing the hacking problem. The only thing you can do is to quit and go to a different server or game. Relying on admins and dedicated servers is a waste of time. IW is a step below dedicated servers I will agree there, but it isn't the "fix all" that people are saying it will be. Just watch.....
Bad Company 2 has dedicated servers that are well admined in beta, and yet there are people hacking already. Where are these admins to kick these hackers?
Just an example. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

 | I am starting to realize that FPS's are dead on PC's (dead to me), they are just too easy to hack and cheat. I have been dedicated to PC games for a long time, but the cheating is sucking the fun out of it.
I have MW2 on the PC and recently rented on the PS3. First off, there are many more players on the PS3. Second, it feels different for some reason. It feel "even". I cannot count how many times on the PC it seemed like I was just getting shot through walls and the millisecond I come around a corner. On the PC I would get slaughtered. On the PS3 I actually do decently. And I am a complete novice on console controllers.
I haven't touched my PC version in a couple weeks...sad, that a waste of money that was. |

There are to many variety of cheats out. You have your basic hacks which include aimbots, wallhacks, etc. Then you have your model cheats which are red/blue players. Then you get the class cheats where players unlock everything. And now we have config file cheats where players are able to get nukes out of care packages. And many more small cheats/hacks here and there.
All it takes is a quick browse and a bit of reading at a certain site.
Good game, just needs dedicated servers. |
