2 edits | Stalker Complete 1.4.3.2.jpg) Vertical black bars on horizon & trees |
I'm having a problem with my S.T.A.L.K.E.R. installation. I keep getting these vertical black bars when looking towards the sun. They also appear on other textures like trees and such as evidenced in the image. Sorry for the small picture let me know if you have a hard time seeing the anomaly and I'll post a higher rez picture.
Has anybody else had or seen similar problems with this game, and if so is there a fix?
I saw a few possible fixes, but the descriptions and pictures don't seem to match my problem in the least, and I'm not sure whether or not they'd work at all. What do you think?

| I'm thinking the game is probably too old. I'm gonna try to make some changes to the game and let everyone know what luck I've had and how I fixed it. I've already lost 50 hours of gameplay because I wanted to give this experience a try. If all else fails I'll drop back to Oblivion Lost 2.1, and re-import my game saves, continue where I left off. I really wanted to give the companion and cars a try though. -- Would you like your ISP to govern how much you can use the web in a month? 1 edit | .jpg/thumb.jpg) Better Angle | .jpg/thumb.jpg) Static Lighting |
I dropped the Shadow Quality down 1 notch in this image and saw no change. I'll try a few more here in a minute and post some results if I don't fall asleep first. Just came back from a contract office install that took 3 days. Been dying too play but tired as hell.
Ok, took another Screenie on "Static Lighting" which disables a number of features, including HDR, Motion Blur, Sun Rays, and more. I'm spoiled by those, and would like to find a fix or happy medium. By alas, I must sleep now. Gonna wokr on this a bit later.
Nighty.

 | reply to ctceo Are you still using NVEmulate on your computer? If you are you may want to try uninstalling it as it could be causing issues. |

4 edits | Yes, I still use it, but testing both with and without it has proven it isn't the culprit. I've turned it on and off, tried it on an identical machine that I've never used it on and had the same results either way, except for the 3-5 FPS increase when using it on maximum emulation, No Software Rasterization. There is no un-installer. You simply enable or disable it's bypasses by using "Apply", and "Restore" buttons in addition to setting levels of emulation.
I don't know how long 196.21 nVidia drivers been up, but I'm going to give that a try. See if it resolves the issue, but I have a feeling it won't. My gut feeling is that it has to do with the mod or it's implementation of shading.
ADD: Ok, Tried 196.21 drivers @ defaults, no nVemulate cranked game settings all the way down turned off SLI
Still same issue. This narrows it down to some sort of auto-adjust problem with the game. Not sure exactly what, but it appears I'm likely the only one having the issues since I can't find a similar report anywhere on the web.
Gonna try to re-install the game, then I don't know what to do.
ADD: Tried re-install, same problem. Tried different Resolutions to see effect. All resolutions exhibit the same artifact, though the higher the resolution the thinner the lines become. This appears to be the only game that I have problems with. Far Cry does not show these artifacts when using HDR, so I'm not sure what gives.
Gonna try some command line switches now. Working with Shadows, DX mode used.
Any more suggestions?
I also just thought of something. If the problem cropped up from OL 2.1 to Stalker Complete RC1 and I was using full dynamic lighting on both, what was done differently that is causing the black lines?
ADD: Just got an e-mail update from one of the coders, who provided me a link I hadn't seen or found in my searches. »74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:pRx···nk&gl=us
This also begs the question. How would I go about downgrading from the DX10 Alkyl install with the ver 3 fix applied to DX9?

| Ironically I lost 2 hard drives yesterday morning, and a friend got me an early gift. Wasn't quite what I was expecting, a legit copy of Win 7 Ultimate, so I decided to give it a try. I figured what the hell my drives were fried by the mobo failure anyway.
So I get it installed only to have some driver issues to which I resolved with some Vista Drivers. Now when I install and play stalker in Full dynamic lighting mode, I get hangs and slowdown like it's no tomorrow, however the black bars are totally gone at the cost of gameplay. Can't win for loosing.

| reply to ctceo Update.
I've narrowed it down a bit. Whatever they did when they updated Oblivion Lost from 2.1.1 to 2.2 caused the Black Bars. If I can figure that one out, we could be on our way to a fix on the FireFront for the Mod coders to tackle. -- Would you like your ISP to govern how much you can use the web in a month?
