STALKER: Call of Pripyat - is it out or not?

Mismanaged? Perhaps. If so, it would be the publishers THQ and 1C that are the problem.

Have to remember that the game developers 'GSC Game World' are/were a tiny back room of programmers who liked to make games. Based in Kiev, they gained fame with their 'Cossacks' series and then broke into the American market with STALKER.

What they weren't prepared for was the sheer number of people they were suddenly supplying the game to and how many different computer configurations they had to now make the game compatible for. THQ and 1C helped with the updating and later patches resolved all the problems, making it a solid contender for any games market. However, the game had already been released and gained negative reviews due to bugs and hardware incompatibility problems. Even with the negative reviews, the game sold very well, gaining critical acclaim.

In November 2007 GSC got Xbox 360 developer rights. Unbelievably they now had permission to make games for the Xbox, but due to the small number of people working at GSC they won't be able to support Xbox until after the revenue comes in from 'Call of Pripyat'.

Even though it's a bit of a mess, I think this is a success story. Kudos to those back room lads. Call of Pripyat seems to be a success with 8.0 from Gamespot and a solid review. Good for them

I just noticed that Steam is having a promotion with CoP. If you own one of the previous Stalker games on Steam (registered to your account) you can get Call of Pripyat for $19.99.
