MiniJ join:2000-05-20 Plano, TX | Re: A really really quick FAQ = Convert 5260 to 5660 hey, how will this affect people w/ mindspring dsl who can plug the 5260 into the switch's uplink and have each computer get a seperate IP? I know this has PPPoE built into it, but i assume with that all 3 computers would only share 1 IP? Any thoughts from anyone about that?

Re: 1 last thing Conversion went well 5260 is now a 5660. I had to get the latest firmware after using the hacked one so PPPoE would work correctly.
Model number 060-5660-003 No revision number
Using the built in PPPoE and router mode. I retired my Pentium 75 box that was acting as router/firewall. |

linust9 join:2000-05-04 Mercer Island, WA | pure 5260's (non-upgradable?) exist...I have one Actually, I have one of each...
a long long time ago, I tried to order DSL thru one ISP---they accepted the order but US West couldn't deliver the local loop--of course, US West never told Covad about that so when Covad came out, they simply dropped off a 5260 and connected it to my house wires. "Market Conditions" said Covad and the ISP--wait a while. months later, the ISP simply gave up on trying to coordinate the install and dropped the ball...this 5260 has the 5660 p/n
another ISP did manage to tickle US West into delivering a new pair of copper, and the install finally succeeded two weeks ago. with another 5260. this 5260 has a 5260 p/n, no revision sticker, and I can NOT telnet into it like I can for the 5660-based unit. |

Part Number 060-5660-003 Serial Number sticker/barcode NO REVISION STICKER

CJ join:2000-07-18 USA | reply to MrCornell Ok. I'm not very FTP savvy. Could someone explain how to setup the FTP part of the instructions? Put it in idiot terms if you would. I've never setup an FTP before, so any help would be appreciated. |

Re: 1 last thing So, did we ever get the answer about gaming. This will no longer allow you to obtain 3 IP address. You will be stuck with one. Which is fine for most things. I know my Linksys router does the same thing. I can play games with it fine, but I can not Host games. Is this a better router than the Linksys. I mean I just bought mine. So, I'm planning on doing this and then sending it back and just getting a switch. But I'm also thinking if I still will not be able to host games such as UT, Half-Life..... Then I might not do this at all
Also here is the guide to the 5660 from Efficient's web page

 | Kosh,
You can host server/client games such as UT even behind NAT you just need to setup portmaps to your PCS nat address. I believe UT uses 7777-7779 UDP/TCP ports. I could be mistaken but you can find this information on the NET.
Howeve client to client (peer to peer) games such as Total Anihilation for example will not work over NAT. Even if they do work over NAT you might not be able to have more than 1 person on your lan able to join the same internet game.
I would like to switch my 5260 to a 5660 but only if I can still use my client side PPPOE when ever I need a REAL IP as well as keep the 5660 routing to other machines. I am doing this with my Linux box right now. |

Re: A really really quick FAQ = Convert 5260 to 5660 BTW everyone. What are these diagnostic screens that the 5660 offers? Can you tell if you are indeed on fastpath or interleaving (the 5260 just says fast or interleaving literally).
I'd like as much information as you can give. |

Phatty join:2000-05-10 Valley Park, MO | reply to MrCornell Thanks for posting this, I have found this to be of great help. I actually was able to talk a friend into giving me his 5660 in exchange for my 5260 awhile back because he was only using it as a bridge. But with this knowledge I know if he ever needs it back I can take that 5260 and upgrade it to the 5660 without any problems. I remember that the Model number on the bottom of mine did contain 5660.. In fact I noticed that and was confused as to why it was that way.. But now I see the light and understand -- You Know 4/4 cowz reccommend eating more chicken.. |

CJ join:2000-07-18 USA | reply to MrCornell So what you are saying is that if I convert my 5260 to a 5660, I can no longer take advantage of the 3 IP's that MS gives me? I have 2 computers networked at my house and connect with both at the same time, all the time. If what Kosh is saying is correct, I won't be able to do this any more.
Could someone please verify this for me.
Thanks |

Re: 1 last thing said by MrCornell: Everyone post your results? Good, bad? etc.
People who have a different revision, or no revision sticker at all, please post your results as well! I have a feeling revision is irrelevant, but I am hoping for proof. Everyone enjoy your new 5660s! i know I will
I have Part Number 060-5660-003 with a barcode sticker (E 022 6.3 MAE1515CC). I can telnet into it, PUTCONFIG, GETCONFIG, but..., I cannot upgrade firmware. Why? I don't know. I guess I have a different version. -- These opinions are strictly my own. However, if you really want them, we can negotiate. |
