 | [ps3] Firewall Settings for PS3 Hello,
I have a PS3 that is connected to the internet through a Dlink Di-624 router, running on Comcast HSI.
Often, the PS3 connection is unstable; it losses the internet connection intermittently, particularly when my son wants to get on the Sony network. I read somewhere that I have to forward specific ports to enable this connection.
I have done this on the router, and wondering whether it is right. The attached file indicates the current settings.
Could you please let me know if these are correct?
Thanks in advance...
cheers, MN |

| Way to much work friend, disconnects are not necessarily related to forwarding ports. Are you wired or wireless? Any DOC3 issues for Comcast goin on in your area? More isolation might be needed.
When was the last time you updated firmware for that Dlink? I would start there 1st. The dlink website does not list much info for the user interface (your screen shot) for the 624, so I would check for UPnP setting of on/off, that should take care of the port issues itself.
If no UPnP enable/disable is avail, the next step, after firmware issues have been resolved is to just set your PS3 to a static lan ip address and open it up in the DMZ section that's shown in your screen shot.
There is a lot of mis-conception of port forwarding as far as PS3/Xbox setups go. That's more for PC gaming and server stuff and really isn't necessary. A good quality router, w/ UPnP functions will take the hassle out of all of that.
Have Comcast here w/ Netgear running PS3, PC and prev XBox. Neatgear performs great, pretty much plug and play. On Blast 16/2 tier, smokin. |

Both sucked when gaming with consoles (Mainly PS2 all I had at time). But, COMPUTER gaming was good. The PS2 would lag and disconnect a lot! Did not matter what I set anything at. I know it cost money. But I recommend upgrading to a better router. I have Linksys now. Used a Belkin several years ago. It worked good(couldn't handle lightning). |

di624 is a pile of trash |

 | reply to MannyNoela The way I set up my DI-624 with PS3 is enabling the Gaming Mode on the router (I think it is on the Tools tab, Misc button). uPnP did not do anything for me. I also have a static IP assigned to the PS3, so that I can place the PS3 on DMZ. It seems to me that some of the game hosting requires this kind of set up (e.g. Rock Band 2, Metal Gear Online). |

1 edit | Have you run the Network test from the XMB to see what your NAT says? Needs to be NAT 2. DMZ is actually not necessary for hosting as you've mentioned for PS3 or XBL, NAT'g takes care of that, so if that's not testing correctly then that's part of a problem.
I have had UPnP probs also w/ older dlinks like you've got, trying to setup customers networks, so that's not surprising. Not sure about the gaming mode.
Reset the Dlink back to fac defaults, this is the best way to assure you're getting DMZ setup correctly. Assign the PS3 the static IP, setup in DMZ and then reboot everything. Once done run network test to verify the connection.
If that doesn't help, might just be time to upgrade. There are plenty of updated models out there now that will handle this a lot better for you and they are not expensive.
My 2c. |

If it isn't NAT 2....you will lag or not even connect to some games. Another thing. You might be try wired to see if better connection? At least DMZ the PS3 if all else checks out. |
