 | [Wireless] WRT54G2 open same ports with two xbox 360's Ok like my post says I have two xbox 360s connected to my router (wired) and they both have separate IPs or at least I would like them to. Problem is when I try to open the same ports for both the xboxes, assigning them each their own separate ip I get an error stating that I'm not allowed to do that. I don't remember the exact error, just that I was more than a little frustrated. I know I have the latest firmware and although I'm not as smart as most on this forum, I do know how to forward a port (or at least follow directions on how to do it) If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I have comcast broadband and all my devices PS3, computer, xbox, etc. all have their own ip. Thanks for any replies in advance... Griff |

| Look for and enable UPNP and remove the port forwards and then do a Xbox live test on both, if they both get open you are good to go.
If you don't check for a firmware update for the WRT54G2 and set it up again with UPNP on and see what happens. |

look it up here and when done enable UPNP »www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
I have used 2 Xbox360s on one connection smoothly with DDwrt just fyi. |

 | Could you explain DD-wrt futher, my upnp is and has been enabled and this my be my only option. I browsed the site you pointed to but it's a little confusing to me. Thanks in advance Griff. I would also like to know if doing this would give me problems with my ps3 or wii as well as my computer. |

WRT54G2 v1.3 VxWorksKiller-G2V13.bin: »www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/downl···bin/2237 tftp.exe: »www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/downl···exe/2236 dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin: »www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/downl···bin/2242
1. Reset the router to defaults on the Linksys Admin page, and let it reboot or manually reboot it after its finished.
2. Set your computer to a static IP address of 192.168.1.10 and 255.255.255.0 for a mask and plug ethernet cable into LAN port of the WRT54G2v1 or v1.3 unit.
3. Log in admin page (username is blank, password = admin) and navigate to firmware upgrade page. Browse to the VxWorksKiller-G2V1-new.bin/VxWorksKiller-G2V13.bin file, press Upgrade and wait at least 60 seconds may take longer wait at least 3mins for it to reboot on its own, if it does not, then powercycle the router manually. Then wait another 60 seconds and reboot it again. Router should now be listening for tftp transfer of dd-wrt firmware.
4. Using the "tftp.exe" transfer the DD-WRT firmware to the router, Start the Linksys's tftp.exe utility, set IP to 192.168.1.1 and browse to the "dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin" file you downloaded before; enter password = admin, and click Upgrade ; after successful tftp, wait 3 min for the router to finish writing new nvram defaults, etc... It should reboot on its own at least two times, so give it 3 min and then go to »192.168.1.1 (If it does not reboot on its own, wait another 1 min, and then power cycle it)
5. When if finishes booting up...do a hard reset on the unit...let it boot again, and configure.
6. Don't forget to set your computer back to automatically obtaining DHCP and DNS.
Here is another place with detailed instruction for the WWRT54G2v1. The v1.3 is basically the same. »dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksy···G2#Forum |

| reply to Griffzan I have the same router and on the Linksys support they do not offer all those firmware updates.1.0.02 is the latest they have put out always go to the manufacturer website for your updates I don't know where that guy got all those update not to mention the link they were on.If you have a Linksys router then go to Linksys support for anything.Firmware being the main thing although atleast if its not compatible firmware the router will reject it. |

| whoops I thought it was a wrt54gs2 my mistake but anyway still always get firmware from the company who makes it.Plus any router that has the UPnP function that means universal plug and play and it will open the necessary ports for that piece of equipment or both pieces in your case. The port forwarding does not help lag or a strict NAT unless your router does not have or have enabled the UPnP function |

I must disagree on both points.
3rd party firmware is often superior in performance, stability and security. My WRT54Gv6 is a good example of this. Me and my roommate could not play Xbox live on the our 2 Xbox360s even with UPnP Enabled at the same time and I was having to restart on a regular basis. I moved the Firmware on my router over to DDwrt v23 (it was while ago) I enabled the UPnP and BAM the two 360s got on XBL with zero problems I got better signal strength and I did not need to restart regularly anymore.
After I got into this firmware stuff a bit more I got my hands on a WRT54GSv4 and put Tomato on it witch has become my favorite for my main router. Tomato, however cool, is limited on the hardware that it can be put on unlike DDwrt that supports many more devices. |
