[General] Voip Users Voipathon

March 26th, 2010 at 3AM EDT
Got VoIP?

We want to hear from you this Friday, March 26th and for 24 hours straight on the Voipathon - for details:

»voipathon.org

This is the third anniversary of the VoIP Users Weekly Conference and we'll be talking non-stop for 24 hours. Wherever you are in the world, please join us in the discussion. It's about Internet community and has no commercial affiliation, no sponsor, no donations, just a joining together of like-minded people all over the world. We'd especially like to hear from the folks at DSL Reports!

You can connect using SIP, Skype, web widget, PSTN or osmosis/telepathy, take your pick, but be there!

It's a celebration.

Regards,

randulo zeeek

I think it's Vulcan mind-meld.

----------------------------------------

By contrast, mind-melt is what happens if you spend too much time watching the TV show "Lost", or listening to Canadian PM Stephen Harper.

No, I think MELT is closer to what will actually happen if you join us.

Voipathon is the name, world domination is the game.

Randulo, thanks for the information.

Being that you have posted here, can you provide some clear and detailed steps as to how people can make connections to this conference? Other than using PSTN, that is!

Yes, I myself can figure it out, after carefully studying your website.

But MANY newcomers to Voip will be TOTALLY LOST.

---------------------------------------

Also, I don't know if you noticed the post from a few days ago, but your iNum number +883 5100 123 94882 cannot be reached using the major US Voip company CallCentric. It results in a fast busy signal.

Being that CallCentric is involved with iNum in a big way, I think that this is a problem on YOUR end.

If you could look into that it would be good.

Thank you.

Actually, you are both right if you combine the spelling of meld and melt to make meldt!

And it fits right in with the OP's goal ... since in the German and Dutch languages, meldt is the 2nd and 3rd person singular of the verb melden which means to report, communicate; let know.

I tried this using my G5 number on a G729 CoDec with the same fast busy signal. However, if I used G711 CoDec, the call got connected with an IVR saying The conference codes you entered is not yet active, please call back later.

The info, including two videos, is here: »voipathon.org/free-software-to-talk/

I can try to sum it up:

Download a free program like X-Lite, Blink (Mac only), Zoiper, SJ Phone or Phonerlite - see the above page for links.

- OR - Run Skype and enter voipathon at the top and click call

- OR - go to the web widget pages on the site above or here: »www.voipusersconference.org/abou···-topics/

Because different phones work differently, there's no single SIP URI we can give. The best, requiring no further input is this:

7463#22622#1@proxy.ideasip.com

Try this: sip:11012010451@ideasip.com

Type or copy/paste that into X-Lite or Blink and it will call them. If your phone doesn't do that URI, you can call sip:voipathon@vuc.onsip.com or 123@ts.x2z.eu

If none of the above works, a geek will be necessary to help you.

I did not know the iNum +883 5100 123 94882 wasn't working. Last I tried it it was, however, it will only be useful during the VUC and it's possible there's a limit of lines.

We would very much like to hear from people if you have issues joining the VUC. Please use the contact form or write to voipusersconference address on gmail.

Ah, I did not read this completey in the other post, sorry. I believe only g711 and g722 are accepted. Possibly even only g711.

You realize this thing goes on for 24 hours, so you can call in after the drigs kick in

I can't believe I've been registered here for over 7 years! This must be the ultimate refuge of FWD and ham operators world wide! I even have a few points left!

For those with G.722 capable phones I'm working on adding a small HDVoice conference bridge to Zeeek's VoIPathon effort later this week.

If I can pull it off there will be a limited number of seats on an HD bridge that I will connect to the narrowband Talkshoe bridge. It will only be available via SIP URI.

I'll post details once things are a little more firm.

That was helpful, thank you. After all, it would be rather ironic to have to participate in a VoIP forum using a POTS connection!

Is a nerd or a boffin an acceptable substitute, or must it be an actual geek? (Just kidding).

I am indeed calling with a g711 codec, unless something is happening to my call further on down the path, yet cannot connect. If I call by using one of the iNum local access numbers, the call does work. Your group may want to look into this further.

Good luck with your conference.

Re: [General] Voip Users Voipathon

Realizing that not all SIP clients can call URI with the # sign, this number should be reachable by any client:

sip:11012010451@ideasip.com

You should also be able to dial this number on a hardware phone such as Polycom.

For the nerd, it would depend on the type of tape on the glasses and number pocket protector pens.

As for the iNum, I know it worked when I last tried it, but we do not control that and it won't work for the Voipathon anyway, as it goes to ZipDX.

I'm talking to a few people about getting a special one-click client for Friday.

Here is what ZipDX CEO David Frankel tells me:

"I'm happy to look further into these failure reports if people have the date and time of their call, and some information about how they are dialing (originating client or network, number sequence or URI dialed, and response)."

He said there were successful calls today, the last one being thru Gizmo.

If you want to post such info, don't forget the time zone, the exact SIP client or phone, the carrier and the city (if a local access number).

I am on EST timezone and I just placed the call within a minute through my Asterisk PBX system with one of my G5 account using a G711 CoDec.
