Do you need A AT&T box for every tv in the house for all the channels ? The commercial they run makes it look like you just need one box.

U-Verse requires a STB at every TV
But all the boxes in a house work off one common DVR, so that all of them can access all recorded shows.
All true

However, if we want to have a U-Verse discussion, the U-Verse forum is a much better place

This thread is for Comcast going All Digital in Chicagoland -- no need to hijack

D FENS

@comcast.net

Comcast is what i've rolled with for eternity ,in cable years. Am I allowed to discuss the difference in this thread ? No intention of "hijacking" anything. There's nothing wrong with A little competition. It benefits the consumer ,with price wars.
Cant we argue about gas prices or something, not television ?

U-Verse, FiOS, Dish, and Direct are all already all Digital

To be able to compete, and perhaps even surpass (debatable), Comcast needs to be able to do the same thing (go all Digital), and they are

Competition is (at least partially) forcing Comcast's hand in this

Yes, and it's not just picture quality they have to compete on, but also channel offerings. It's counterintuitive to many but true that analog channels burn up more bandwidth by a factor of 5:1 to 10:1 than digital ones, even high-definition (up to 1080i, anyway) channels. So Comcast had to migrate channels from analog cable to digital cable to be able to compete on channel offerings and premium options (where the real money can get made).
