It's counterintuitive to many but true that analog channels burn up more bandwidth by a factor of 5:1 to 10:1 than digital ones, even high-definition (up to 1080i, anyway) channels. So Comcast had to migrate channels from analog cable to digital cable to be able to compete on channel offerings and premium options (where the real money can get made). |
